The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany was founded in 1840 by Rev. Dr. George Washington Dame, who had come to town to serve as principal of the Danville Female Academy. Four years later the church erected a wooden structure of Gothic design, on the corner of Main Street and Jefferson Avenue. By the time of the Civil War, Dr. Dame’s original congregation of four had grown to 265 communicants. The original frame building was demolished to make way for the present structure, which was consecrated in 1880.
Today, The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany ministers in a multitude of ways including, but not limited to, weekly sermons, youth ministry, feeding ministry, music ministry, and Christian formation. Ministry is also available to those in our parish through the Pastoral Care and Parish Life & Hospitality programs.
The Epiphany Episcopal School, which operates on the church premises, was founded and provides a classical and challenging education for grades pre-K through 8 with an emphasis on Christian values.
We proudly welcomed the year 2015, which marked our church's 175th anniversary. Our ministry continues to grow in breadth and depth.
Seeking to be a place where we find Christ and are found by Christ.
