Story

Essie’s is an elegant yet casual dining American restaurant located in the heart of the Little Italy section of Poughkeepsie, NY under the direction of Executive Chef Brandon Walker a CIA graduate from Brooklyn, NY. Chef Walker's Modern American menu is inspired by global flavors and his family roots from the Caribbean and American South. Chef Walker uses mordern cooking techniques and local seasonal ingredients when available to support the local food economy and to show case the best ingredients that the Hudson Valley offers. The Dining room pays homage to the things of old with vintage, industrial, and reclaimed wood features to create a cozy, warm and inviting environment.

I went here for dinner on a busy Saturday night. We were seated right away and despite how busy it was, we never felt rushed. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. And our waiter did a wonderful job pairing wine with our meal. We started with a small plate of grilled octopus. It is a must try! The octopus was tender, juicy, and well seasoned. It was perfectly balanced by the squid ink reduction and bean salad. I even joked about having another for dessert. My entree, the vegetable puttanesca, is delicious (just the right amount of salt and spice). It is served with a hearty pasta, which will leave you feeling satisfied. I will definitely be making my way back here soon.

What a wonderfully prepared meal. Everything we ate was top notch, beautifully plated, with deep complex flavors. Paired with the wines, the meal was simply elegant and casual - no pretense just expertly prepared food in a relaxed and inviting environment. Service was spot on. Chef was a delight and we would heartily return to see what new items he is planning for the menu. We were celebrating our daughter's graduation from CIA - Chef is also an alumnus and shared his story with her. What great inspiration. Perfect meal for a perfect day.

The ribs were pretty remarkable. Service was a bit slow but very personable.

Lovely brunch with a friend visiting from out of town. Excellent entries and so nice to not feel rushed which gave us lots of time to visit. Attentive wait staff and a fabulous meal - we just love Essie's!!!!
