"You're not sick."

They tell you to show up 15 minutes early, you know, to reduce your waiting time. Then after waiting those fifteen minutes, settle in, because you'll be waiting 20 minutes after your appointment time before the nurse even calls your name. If you bring kids with you, bring something to keep them busy for those 35 minutes, because they only have magazines in the waiting room for you to read to them.

The doctor will tell you lots of helpful things, like "you're not sick", "lots of people have it worse than you", "you shouldn't blow your nose so much", and "isn't there someone who can watch the kids?" (because you totally only brought them with you because that's your favorite option). Nothing as helpful as the last three times you showed up with the same illness, saw the same doctor, were given three different diagnoses, and three different suggestions for treatment.

Next, while writing a prescription for a drug that won't take effect for seven days, you'll ask her to make it generic so the cost won't be so high, and she'll nod. You'll find out only after getting to the pharmacy that the drug she prescribed doesn't have a generic version, but she won't tell you that before you leave.
