I had some t-bones cut for me today. When I got home, I noticed the tenderloin of the steak was cut completely off, down to the bone. This makes it a bone-in New York strip, also known as a Kansas City strip steak. This is a very deceitful practice. Next time you are at a meat counter, look at the difference in price for a New York strip, T-bone, and Porterhouse. Porterhouse has more tenderloin on it then a T-bone, hence the cost difference. Calvin, the meat market manager, said that is how they get them. So because somebody there is incompetent, you pass that on to the consumer? He also tried to explain that some T-bone's have less tenderloin. When I pointed out two of them that you can tell were cut to the bone with a knife, he said somebody really messed those up. No kidding? This is the first time I have been back in years. Last time I went there, I bought some T-bones as well. When I got home, there was about a 3/4" fat cap around the whole thing. I ended up trimming half of a pound off each steak. I didn't take the steaks back since it was dinner time. So I pretty much ate the loss. So I did my return today and went to another store's meat department. I won't say where, since this is not an advertisement. The guys in the meat department all had a good laugh with the pictures I took and what Calvin told me. If you don't know what you are buying and are trusting the butcher is giving you what you paid for, I would go somewhere else. Again, this is a very deceitful practice.

Excellent store! Meat counter is stellar! The only store left in the city that proactively opens checkout lanes to serve customers faster. Checkers and baggers are always in a good mood and know their stuff! Hands down Fareway is the best!

Typical grocery store choices & good meats.  Better prices on most items than Wal-Mart.

I especially like the meat counter, pick your own wrapped by the meat cutters. They always have some specials going on. A smaller market than many,  but friendly service.
