I have been a customer of Fifth Third for several years on a personal level. In addition, my employer utilizes Fifth Third as well. Today, I needed to break around $130 in twenty dollar bills into fives and ones, and was stunned when the cashier launched into an interrogation: "Is this for a business?" (I reply yes). "Do you have the account number?" (I reply no). "Who is the manager?" Etc. At this point I ask what does it matter, and the cashier informs me that for businesses there is a 6% transaction fee for breaking bills. I then ask the cashier if she could break my bills as a personal customer (as stated above, I have been a personal customer of Fifth Third for several years), to which she replied that no, it's too late since I already stated that it's for business, not personal). I am absolutely incredulous that there would be such a fee, and am left with the impression that this is an absolute falsehood. Frankly I am under the impression that the cashier was not being forthright with me (i.e. lying). I am constantly being solicited by Fifth Third to utilize more of their personal financial services, but today's incident left such a horrid impression on me that I will never utilize their services any more than the bare minimum necessary.

I have never experienced a more "Customer Service - Friendly" bank in my lifetime. As a severanced employee of Bank One for 35 years, I wore many hats - one of which dealt with Creating Financial Budgets every year. Customer Service was always an area of discussion - money went in to start the New Year, and was the first to be cut, usually around March. We all knew that Bank One was NOT the friendliest bank in town; it probably was ranked lower than most banks we competed with. (Note: Not the Branch personnels fault, but, Upper Management who made their lives confusing.) I would like to send a big Thank You to Nichole who manages the Banking Center in Kroger’s at 55 W. Schrock Rd, Westerville, OH, and another to Fifth Thirds Organization for allowing their employees to focus on Friendly Banking. It is most certainly a very Refreshing idea whose time is overdue.
