Story

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, known locally in the Washington, D.C. area as simply Wolf Trap, is a performing arts center located on of national park land in Fairfax County, Virginia, near the town of Vienna. Through a partnership and collaboration of the National Park Service and the non-profit Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, the Park offers both natural and cultural resources.Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts began as a donation from Catherine Filene Shouse. Encroaching roads and suburbs led Mrs. Shouse to preserve this former farm as a park. In 1966 Congress accepted Mrs. Shouse's gift and authorized Wolf Trap Farm Park (its original name) as the first national park for the performing arts. On August 21, 2002, the park's name was changed to its present one, thus reflecting its mission while keeping the historical significance of this area.Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing ArtsThe Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization founded by Catherine Filene Shouse concurrent with the donation of her Wolf Trap Farm to the National Park Service. The Park is operated as a public/private partnership between the Park Service and the Foundation. The former staffs and operates the park grounds, and the latter produces and presents the performance and education programs. The Foundation presents performances in the Filene Center from May through September and at The Barns at Wolf Trap year-round. The latter venue being adjacent to but outside the park proper. In addition, the Foundation operates the Wolf Trap Opera Company, a resident company for young opera singers.

We had a phenomenal time watching Steve Martin and Martin Short in concert recently. I've been going to Wolf Trap for the past twenty years or so off and on. When it's not raining, the lawn seats are absolutely fantastic and affordable. Great camaraderie amongst the people on the lawn. Bring food and folding chairs to sit back relax and enjoy the show.

I love to watch concerts here. I love that you can bring a cooler and blanket and sit on the grass...if it's not raining. Also, if you purchased a seat it does have covering from the elements. Wolf trap is wheel chair accessible.

Plan to get here really early if you have lawn seats. The lawn was completely full an hour before the show. Also, chairs with legs of ANY height are only allowed at the back of the lawn.

Beautiful venue. Sort of weird on the rules regarding where and how you can take food and alcohol in. I definitely plan to return. The -1 star is due to pricing on concessions. I've been to many shows at many places and paid crazy amounts of money for concessions and beer. I THINK this is the most expensive concession stand I've ever encountered and it sort of sucks when you expect to be able to pick up a snack and a beer for the show.

It was a nightmare getting to the venue. We were 30 minutes late to our show due to the 5 mile back up on the highway at the exit that feeds in to the venue. It was absolute gridlock and there wss nothing you could do because there was no alternative route in. Then there was a 40 minute wait once you got off the exit to make it to a parking lot that had no open spots!!! These were the parking lots the staff was directing everyone to???!!! Some people were complaining because they missed the whole first act. If you want to see a show there, give yourself 2 hours just to get in to the facility. Once there it's fine.
