Story

Exciting performances, picnics, and a beautiful setting are just part of your experience at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Through the cooperative effort and partnership of the National Park Service and the Wolf Trap Foundation, you can enjoy music, dance, and a variety of performances throughout the year. Together, they offer festivals in the park and performances in the summer at the Filene Center. The National Park Service (NPS) operates the park and keeps it active all year with backstage tours, interpretive activities, educational programs, and the annual Holiday Sing-a-Long program.

Outside of the performance season, the park is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to dusk every day with the exception of New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day when the park is closed. During the performance season, the park is closed to public visitation which is not performance related during park festivals and Filene Center performances to avoid conflict among visitor use activities. This restriction begins two hours prior to show times and ends one hour after performances have completed. The park is closed from dusk to 7:00 a.m. except to patrons and authorized participants attending authorized events.

Mission

On October 15, 1966 an Act of Congress (Public Law 89-671) provided for the establishment of Wolf Trap Farm Park (the park's original name) in Fairfax County, Virginia. The park was established "... for the performing arts and related educational programs, and for recreation use in connection therewith..."

Wolf Trap's name was officially changed from Wolf Trap Farm Park to Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts on August 21, 2002 (Public Law 107-219).

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is managed by a partnership with the National Park Service and the non-profit, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. Together, these partners offer their talents to manage this unique park, so that all visitors have a great experience.

Love Wolf Trap. Was there twice, a week apart. Ate at Ovations the first time, and brought a picnic the next. Ovations is consistent, if uninspiring, but that's not a slam. They offer a number of options, and a good choice if you have reserved seating. Show up early enough to get easy exit parking, relax through dinner, drinks, and dessert, then mosey over to waiting seats. I prefer the lawn usually, but it's nice to be weatherproof. A true national treasure if you've not been.

My wife and I LOVE this place. We come here 3-4 times every summer. Definitely try to make the NSO concerts where they play the soundtrack while showing the movie on the big screen. Lawn seats are very affordable, but come early! They go very quickly.

Fun and unique venue. Beautiful location!Looming wooden "Fort" like structure is different but felt closed in to me and seemed to me it possibly blocks the view of lawn seat section. Security and support staff were very pleasant people. No large screens for the concerts we attended. Don't know if that is a usual thing though. Crowd did seem a bit "sedate". That seems to be a theme for Wolf Trap based on the other reviews I read. Overall, a good experience. I'd go back.

A beautiful concert venue. Great lineup throughout the warm months. Venue has decent food options, sufficient restrooms, and nearby parking. The structure is a beautiful acoustic wood building with very wide stage.

Nice venue, great sound, but the lawn was packed. Go early to get a spot. They open lawn gatea at 630. Be in line before that. And if you buy a seat, they don't open seating until 30 minutes before performance so don't go early for that. Overall nice place
