I’m not sure if this is exactly the First Team office I went to, but I got my condo in Huntington Beach through First Team back in 2001. I liked that the agent didn’t push me to make a purchase decision in one day like other agents I’ve dealt with, and he made a point of showing me a variety of places over several weeks to gauge what appealed to me. He was quite affable.

On the other hand, it took a month to get to the area I initially said I was interested in and which I ended up purchasing. In the meantime, he showed me a place that was over my stated price range and indicated he didn’t think I’d been serious about that. And he didn’t tell me he’d negotiated up what we’d agreed upon as an offer until it came time to sign the offer papers. I let it go, but if that happened again I’d refuse out of principle.

He was also a bit disorganized, where his car was not available so I ended up driving, he didn’t start MLS searches until I arrived, so I wasted time sitting in his office, didn’t call ahead of time at places where the listing said to call ahead of time, and he didn’t verify the keys were available for pickup after closing so I wasted a day driving down from LA and couldn’t move in.

After I moved in, he treated me to a lunch but presented a form that I was supposed to sign in the beginning promising to never sue First Team for anything, which is something you shouldn’t have to sign (Is First Team and their agents promising to never sue you?) And he tried to drop by without warning to show my place as an example unit in my condo complex.

This may sound like I’m reporting a terrible experience, but it’s actually best realtor experience I’ve had. I just think the professional standards need to be better, or people will increasingly try to cut out the middleman.

First Team is a great place, their staff is very friendly and professional. Around Christmas they also set up the office and bring in Santa for the kids.Two thumbs up!
