For the Birds is a locally owned & operated, selling premium wild bird seed and unique accessories; with a "Bird Bar" to mix your own seed cocktail!

Story

Karen Huffman & Beverly Mosqueda have been fast friends for over twenty years and had been looking for a business they could start together and enjoy; something that would bring a little joy to people’s lives. One afternoon Karen was sitting at her desk at home and laughing at a cardinal splashing away in their birdbath when her husband, Scott, a teacher in GISD said, “That’s what you and Bev should do, a bird business. Watching the birds always puts a smile on your face and it does the same for others too.” Karen called Bev and ran it by her and voila…”For the Birds” was born.

The two friends plan to sell mostly Texas made products; their birdseed comes from a Texas family business that has been around for generations; it’s premium seed that attracts many varieties of birds. The store uniquely has its own Bird Bar where patrons can mix their own “recipe” of seed combinations to attract birds they would like to see visit their yards.

“One of our special touches was to incorporate a book nook, a place for folks to sit back with a cup of coffee and thumb-through books to discover the names of birds they recently spotted at their feeder,” said Karen. The store also features the works of local artisans, everything from birdhouses to sun catchers.

The outside is graced with “Paul’s Garden,” an oasis for flowers, butterflies and of course, birds. Bev’s husband, Paul, tends the garden and keeps the feeders filled. The invitation is always open to sit a spell and enjoy the majesty God has provided.

“For the Birds” isn’t just a store to buy birdseed, feeders, etc. It’s a place to share your birding experiences, to relax, take time to think about and savor the beauty and joy that flies around us.
