I arrived at this airport (Terminal 4) on an International flight in mid October 2016.  What first struck me was the pilot of the flight informed passengers that he wasn't rushing us but a flight with 150 passengers from Bogota had just arrived and it would be advisable to get into the terminal first.  This was a first for me since in the past, I had always arrived at MIA and had no issues with various flights arriving at the same time.  That was also the first time I have ever had such a horrible experience at an airport.

There is hardly any signage directing the flow of passenger traffic through the airport to the various stations.  For example, there were two baggage carousels in the hall and not one sign informing passengers where to collect their luggage.  Since I was travelling alone, I had to stand by one and after a period of time and not seeing my luggage, I had to go to the other one.  Extremely irritating.

Next thing was after scanning passports (another extremely long and drawn out process as some of the machines were not functioning properly), I had to find my way to immigration (again no signs,  I had to follow the flow of people like a Lemming), only to be stuck in one and it bares repeating....ONE queue with all the other passengers who had arrived.  After waiting for a very, very, VERY long time,  I was directed like a prisoner to one of the officers.  

Let me say this now, the personnel at this airport are extremely short on manners and treat people like felons.  I had brought through a cooked ham for my family member and the female officer acted like I was a drug mule.  The only thing she didn't do, was hit me over the head with the same damn ham.  She also made me wait after she had dumped my ham into the garbage and never returned.  Eventually, I had to ask another officer if I could leave.  

So, it took me almost two hours to deplane, treasure hunt for my luggage, go through the immigration and customs process and then find my way outside to be picked up.

On another note, the terminal was extremely dated, the carpet was horrible and the building felt like a factory where people come in one end, get processed and are spit out the other end.  I have never wanted to escape a place so much.

I would love to say I will never go through this airport again, but I am returning to SOFL and have no choice.  I am just praying that they have cleaned up their act.

Everyone experiences employee issues but this is crazy. Only 1 person cooking so the manager SHUTS DOWN the kitchen. Even if you are willing to wait the hour it was taking... nope. I was "fortunate" enough to sit next to the last couple who got food. It sure smelled good.... Does the manager come out to explain? Nope. Leaves it to the staff.

The 1 star... that was for the WONDERFUL bartenders... whose tips got destroyed by one person's poor decision making.

This airport is nice in some terminals, but dirty and old in other terminals. They are slowly updating it. But it's taken them since 2014 to get half done. We fly in once a year to this airport. The workers are not very nice, and just do as they please with the customers. Because we aren't "their" customers. We had an issue with spirit this trip, but I understand their reasoning so I am not rating this based on spirit. It's not the airports fault.

Fort Lauderdale airport is easy to access.  There are several ways to get to it which is very convenient. The terminals are all clearly labeled and finding the airlines is simple. There are areas that are under renovation so it might be a good idea to give yourself a little more time to find your way.  Parking may be a bit confusing at first but once you have been to the airport a few times it will become second nature.

Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport is easy to park at and leave.  It is clean, not very large and they are still doing some great upgrades.   

The newly upgraded areas are large so you do not feel crowded and kept clean.  They have lots of natural light and quite a few small eateries to choose from, some with seating.  

I like flying into this airport when going on a cruise, very close to the seaport, or when driving to anywhere North of Miami when in Florida.
