About

A museum of homestead buildings, fun for the entire family. Open from late May to mid-Sep, Thurs. thru Sun. and holidays, 11AM to 5PM

Story

A collection of original buildings from the early 1900s homestead era in Fort Rock Valley. Tour six homes, a 1-room country schoolhouse, doctor's office, church, general store, and blacksmith shop. Men like the horse-drawn farming implements and old gas pumps. Women like the primitive kitchens and vegetable garden. Young kids like the old chuckwagon and school. Everybody likes to explore the nooks and crannies of these simple homes, church, and school built before electricity arrived here in eastern Oregon's desert.

We're also a source of information about other things to see and do in the area.

History at its best, these folks have stuff many will have never seen nor know anything about, but folks, it is all from the era of the 1860's to 1960's. Authetic every way. There is a great staff of knowlegable people to assist in the explanation of the hands on exibits. This is a place to take your well behaved children to teach them about the past of the Fort Rock Valley. While you are there look to the north and see Fort Rock, then drive over to the state park and see something that happened 10 to 12,000 years ago. Do not miss this.

Step back in time to the Frontier Days! Nestled in a sea of sagebrush, the homestead buildings have been carefully preserved and placed here with the beautiful Fort Rock as a backdrop. You can go inside all of the buildings and see artifacts, beds, utensils, etc. It's a self guided tour that comes with an informative sheet describing each house and its former occupants. Great place for photographs as well; I took some actual BW film and a Holga for some really creative shots.
