This place was awesome. Always looking for good ramen, and I believe Fujiya has some of the best I've tried. I got tonkatsu ramen, pork and chive dumplings. Fuji sunrise drink and a flight of Fruit Sake, which indidnt know I loved. Everything was outstanding. Tiff was an awesome server. Will def. Be back!
Highly recommend. Fujiya is very delicious ramen shop in Shadyside, with a lot of people, need to wait at least 30 minutes to get a seat at night. I ordered the skewers, which had a slightly salty charcoal grilled aroma; I ordered the fried chicken, which was crispy and delicious; I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, the soup was seasoned, the noodles were moderately soft and hard, and the barbecued pork was flavorful, and it was delicious with spinach. Also, the service was great
We decided to stop here on our way to someplace else. That turns out to be the right decision! We started with a pomegranate margarita, which I thought would be a novelty drink, but was one of the best margaritas I've ever had! Then we went on to some yakitori which was excellent, and I finished with chicken ramen. It was delicious, and my wife had the vegetarian ramen. It was also delicious. The ingredients are fresh, the noodles are cooked to perfection, the broth is wonderfully flavorful. It was great! We're coming back!
Happy Hour 4:30-6:30PM daily. There is a waiting list on the wall across from the bar. They don't take reservations supposedly. I'll get to that... You can write your name down and walk away for a bit if you have time. We were 5th in line with a group of 3, and waited approximately 35 minutes although I'm pretty sure we got skipped over for a group that didn't put their name down at all and were welcomed by the staff.... Note that if your whole party is over 21, you can elect to sit at the bar which has about 9-10 seats and they will ID you. Seating is pretty limited otherwise - I counted three tables near the front capacity 3 each and eight in the back 3 capacity 2, 5 capacity 4. Occasionally they'll also have capacity for two since there are benches, so they'll skip over the larger groups. Overall, the food was good but expensive. I got the tonkatsu made spicy, my partner got the same, and my friend got the Katsu Don. The tonkatsu had a light broth that was pretty flavorful, but quite salty. The quantity was very small - I think I ate all of the noodles in four or five spoons. My friend's Katsu Don looked like a better quantity for sure. We got the takoyaki to share, which came out hot but wasn't otherwise noteworthy compared to other takoyaki. The prices are rather high for the quantity of food received. Edit: I am lowering my review to a 2/5 as my partner got food poisoning that evening from her tonkatsu. This was the only thing she ate that day outside of homemade fresh food, so we couldn't find any other culprit. Edit 2: 3 days after my review, I am lowering the score to 1/5 as we have several reported food poisoning incidents from the same night of eating at Fujiya second week of January 2023. Between long waits, high prices, and the aftereffects, I would not recommend this place. Food: 4/5 Value: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Acceptable, but the wait was not worth it Atmosphere: Cozy/casual Overall 3.5/5, probably better if you only have two people and don't have to wait 40 minutes. Dietary restrictions: Some of the miso soups have nuts, so be careful on the order.
The atmosphere of this place is gorgeous. It's tucked away and there isn't a ton of seating but it really is quiet and romantic. The pork buns are delicious. The pork is really well cooked and the buns are like eating a tiny cloud, they're so soft The yakitori was also super good, never had it before but we did get the quail egg and bacon, the asparagus and bacon, chicken skin, and shrimp. All great for sharing and the chicken skin is a weird addition that is actually super needed in your mix. The ramen is good and customizable and there is extra spice on request. Would recommend
Wow, what a wonderful experience. went on a date with my gf to get some ramen, as I have never tried japanese ramen before. they were out of vegetable stock, so we had to order the curry tofu, but it was so good. we orderd just one bowl and it was enough for both of us.
The place is good but the food tastes just okay. Not the best ramen you want. On the top of that I told them to make my ramen extremely spicy, it turned out to be not spicy at all and then I was charged for hot oil sauce when i asked for it which is usually complimentary at other restaurants. It was not so good experience. Also, i wanted to replace pork with chicken and they wanted to charge for the replacement too. They are charging the customers with such pity things just to cover up the costs incurred during the pandemic. Would not visit again.
It was no ichiran but it was probably the best ramen I could get in the area. The tonkatsu soup was really good and perfect for rainy weather. My partner got spicy miso and he said "it was ok" so go figure the cocktails were ok but the lychee was no lychee... but it had 1 lychee in it.... it tasted like a rose instead ykno what I mean the fried ice cream was crunchy at first but the ice cream was rly hard I was mildly confused. Overall I would defo come back again for ramen and drinks! Kid-friendliness: I saw no kids so no
A very cute, cozy, almost authentic, ramen bar in shadyside. The decorations are great and so is the Japanese sake selection. However, I got their chicken skin yakitori, which turned out too crispy like potato chips and were drizzled in a sweet sauce. Their ramen looks great but the flavors in the broth are not as rich and wholesome as some other ramen places. Here, it feels like the broth is flavored with powder.
The food was exceptional! Especially the karaage with egg sauce. Will absolutely be coming here again.
