Story

In the early 1900's local Indian trader Charles Strausenback built the Trading Post to resemble the homes of the Pueblo Indians. While maintaining its heritage over the years, the Trading Post had expanded seven times to become Colorado's largest. Choose from a fantastic variety of Colorado gifts and souvenirs. Don't miss the vast collection of art in the gallery ranging from local original works to sculpture, jewelry, books, music, and more. We live nearby and love to visit the trading Post from time-to-time.  We found it to be a great place for post cards, gifts, souvenirs, a snack, some good coffee, or a meal.  Last time we went during a snow storm and found them open.  We sat it some tables by a big window in the back and ate lunch while we watched the snow paint their beautiful property white.

I love the store and all the different items they sell. The restaurant, however, could be run better, as they have often mostly closed up well before their posted closing time. They clean around you while eating in a very obvious way and 2 times I have been there employees have yelled across the seating area between the cafe and the restaurant to talk to each other. Maybe this is just how it is in the winter when they are not as busy. The food is pretty good though and in the summer there is a very nice outdoor area.

This is one of the better trading post experiences that I have seen. It is extensive and surrounded by the beauty of the place. 

In addition to the gift shop there is a very nice snack bar, plus a restaurant. It is filled with extensive educational exhibits as well. I strongly suggest that you set aside time to visit, you won't regret it.

Garden of the Gods is an incredible place for tourists and locals alike. If it's tour first visit I'd recommend stopping at the welcome center for an overview of the park (also grab a map) so you can plan out your avtivities. The park offers great hiking/biking trails for both the experienced and casual crowd. There's also several picnic groves throughout the park which also tie into the trails for easy access. If your looking for some decent food and a souvenir, check out the Trading post. Set inside an historic building with a friendly, helpful staff, it offers something for everyone. Hungry? Grab a Buffalo burger and a beer or a coffee and muffin. Need a gift? From local artwork to a T-shirt they've got you covered. Enjoy!

A staple of visiting Garden of the Gods, the trading post has been around a long time and has grown exponentially through the years. It has a decent cafe, ice cream parlour, and grill with indoor and outdoor seating available. There's a small arcade, too. But it is mostly about souvenirs. It has thousands of them of all types, from expensive art pieces by local artists to typical tourist trap fare. It is a nice centralized location to make a big through the park.
