Story

Garmer & Prather, PLLC, is located in the Opera House Office Building on North Broadway in Lexington, Kentucky. The firm dedicates its practice exclusively to litigation, primarily civil litigation on behalf of people who have been injured or the families of people who have died as a result of the negligence of another person or corporation.

The attorneys at Garmer & Prather believe in the power of our justice system and in the capacity of juries to resolve difficult disputes. Our goal is to ensure our clients have the opportunity to pursue legal action against those who have wronged them or their family members. Our firm is located in Lexington, Kentucky, but we represent clients across Kentucky, from Lexington to Louisville, Pikeville to Paducah, and all places in between.

Bill Garmer was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in 1998 by the Kentucky Justice Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been inducted into the University of Kentucky College of Law Hall of Fame. Bill has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1987, and has been named one of the top 50 lawyers in Kentucky by SuperLawyers in 2008 and every year since 2010. Bill sits on the Board of Governors of the Kentucky Bar Association. He formerly served on the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice for more than ten years and was Chairman of AAJ’s Council of State Presidents. He is a past president of the Kentucky Justice Association and is a member of KJA’s Board of Governors. Bill Garmer serves the attorneys of the future as an adjunct professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law, teaching classes in litigation skills and medical liability law, and leads a variety of Continuing Legal Education seminars in Kentucky and around the country. Jay Prather is also active in the Kentucky Justice Association, serving on the Board of Governors since 2012 and as a member of its Young Lawyer’s Committee before that. Jay, too, is rated AV-Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been an invited speaker and moderator at Continuing Legal Education seminars around the state.
