Gene is top notch.  He can make your hair look like perfectly healthy "little girl" hair, no matter what your age.  Receptionist issue is a mystery, but having great hair is what matters, right?

I went to Rachel at Gene Martin Salon for a haircut. I walked away with what is probably the best haircut I have ever had. Rachel was incredibly friendly and attentive. She greeted me with a smile and a handshake and proceeded to ask me what I wanted with my hair. I showed her a couple of photos and described what I wanted. She listened very closely to what I had in mind and asked several questions about different parts of my hair. It was apparent that she cared about cutting my hair the way I wanted it done. While she was working, she was friendly and chatted with me, but the entire time she was focusing on doing my hair right. When she was finished, my hair looked and felt great! I was so pleased with the haircut and with Rachel's friendly and attentive demeanor that I booked a second appointment on the spot.

The salon offers tea/coffee to their guests, but I didn't have any, so I don't know how it was. The receptionist and I had slightly different styles of communication, which was awkward over the phone when I booked the appointment and at one point during my visit to the salon. Even so, she is friendly and helpful.

I found the price for a woman's haircut to be fairly reasonable for Pasadena (Haircuts start at $50 for women, $35 for men), and the quality of the cut was worth the extra $15 (with tip) I spent compared to the last salon I went to. Their website includes a full price list for their services.

I have given the salon 4 stars, because my experience was quite good but not perfect -- given the awkwardness with the receptionist.
