Our chef was super friendly. Loved the food, loved the experience. But I wish the waitress had made it clear that the tea had to be paid for instead of offering it like it was complimentary. She asked us as we sat down if we wanted water or tea. ‍Food: 5/5
Came here for my birthday dinner and this was by far the best omakase I have ever been to! Overall great value for price. The different cuts of fish are soo incredibly fresh and the food is prepared so meticulously. The service is amazing, special shoutout to Jay and Leo for the warming birthday wishes and free shots of sake!! Had the most amazing food and company, this place is an absolute recommend.
Stopped in for the omakase while in town and it was awesome! Very affordable without sacrificing quality and freshness. There was two options a smaller omakase and the 17 piece which is what we chose. The madai was one of my favorites and the uni was so fresh too! The service was also great everyone was so kind and the pace of the omakase was perfect as well.
I recently experienced an genki Omakase meal, and it was fantastic. The food was incredibly fresh, and the chef was highly skilled and professional. The atmosphere was wonderful, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The value for money was excellent. Overall, I highly recommend trying Omakase for a memorable dining experience.
Looking for an unforgettable omakase experience that won’t leave your wallet empty? Genki Omakase located near Washington Square Park, is the spot to be! Their 17-course omakase, priced at just $98, offers a perfect blend of quality and value. The freshness of the fish is unparalleled, and each course is meticulously prepared to bring out the best flavors. From the melt-in-your-mouth wagyu with otoro to the buttery scallop and perfectly seared black cod, every bite was a culinary delight. Plus, the warm and attentive service made the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you’re a seasoned sushi lover or new to omakase, Genki is a must-visit. And if you’re short on time or looking for a lighter option, their 13-course omakase at $75 is equally impressive. So, next time you’re near Washington Square Park, make sure to treat yourself to this incredible dining experience—you won’t regret it. Follow @spinx17 for more NYC food recs! .
Pretty good value $98 for 17 piece omakase but nothing special so I’m honestly surprised by how highly rated this place is. Nice atmosphere and great service. Ingredients were mostly fresh but the pieces were pretty standard creations with smaller servings than other places in NYC. Overall I think it’s a solid starter spot for people interested in trying omakase but there definitely are better value & more innovative places in the city. Note that you can get a free piece if you write a review, hence prob all the 5-stars—however I am writing this a week later so I did not get anything for this honest review
Incredible value for an omakase experience in Manhattan. You get to bring your own booze, which is convenient because there are wine bars everywhere in SOHO. You can pick a smaller course or a larger course. For an adult man, I think you definitely need the larger course - and maybe even some add ons. You won't leave stuffed but that's not really the point; it's a well thought out, no frills - yet high-end dining experience. The staff is quick, efficient and you're in and out by the hour.
I would say this is a great place to start the weekend. I have to say the first dish I almost threw up. I just felt the Hotate wasn’t that fresh and didn’t go well with the jelly on it. Other than that, it was getting better and better towards the end. I especially like Black Cod, Ebi, and Uni was rly good. And the Unagi was the highlight.
Spectacular experience! This was my second time joining them, and I was afraid that I would be disappointed after a very good first time, but otherwise, everything was at the highest level. Very important: 17 pieces, maybe a bit too much if you are not super hungry. The first time I was at Genki, perhaps I was hungry, but it went super smooth. We took 17 pieces again the second time, and we were so done at number 11 We did not even know how to continue with the rest. Also, perhaps it was the chef’s fault because pieces were coming too fast. Our chef served three people, including two of us, and our three seatings finished the first. FOOD Their selection of fish is impressive! I’ve tried fish that I have never tried before, and everything is incredibly fresh. Each piece we tried was bursting with flavor. One thing: my second time dining with them, I was missing a little bit of extra wasabi and perhaps a bit extra sauce in some pieces; we had a different chef this time and obviously a bit different style. But I cannot say anything bad here; it is more about personal preferences. Their menu is seasonal because what I had in August differed from what I had now in April. They also have a great choice of Sake and nonalcoholic drinks. We had baby squid for an appetizer and were afraid to eat it; it was a bit “too alive” but undoubtedly delicious. Also, towards the end of your dinner, they offered to add some extra — if you like — but most people are beyond full by the end of 17 courses. SERVICE There is little of service to value here. But one thing I would like to see better is for a chef to explain what type of fish we eat, where it comes from, and talk to us about food, as it’s definitely an experience. The first time I was at Genki, we had a bit of a slippery moment because we were 15 minutes late, and they did not want to serve 17 courses, and I had to argue that — but all went well eventually. AMBIENCE It is a charming space. I liked that it is not shoe box-size; there is a waiting area, which adds some coziness and makes waiting comfortable if you arrive early. Besides the bar seating, there are no other tables. I highly recommend this Omakase spot! As you can see, it has been at the top of my list since I returned there for the second time. I think it is a solid 4-star review closer to 4.5 stars. The only reason it is not 5 is that I was missing interaction with the chef and the fast timing. Other than that, everything was excellent.
Great omakase with affordable price. Food is amazing and chef is super friendly, we had an awesome experience here!Food: 5/5
