Story

The Gibbet Hill Grill is at the forefront of the local food movement. We are one of the only restaurants in New England that has a produce farm on site, and Chef Tom Fosnot shapes his menu around what is seasonally available. In the summer, the majority of our produce is grown right on our farm. We grow over 40 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, squashes and zucchini, heirloom beets, radishes, greens, peppers, beans, potatoes, specialty onions, herbs, and many other crops, all of which can be seen on our menu throughout the year. We keep a root cellar and have winter greenhouses in order to expand our growing season. In addition, we also source from other local farms and food purveyors to feature the best of what the region has to offer. We bring the farm to your fork, literally.

The roots of this restaurant are in farming. Before the Grill existed, Gibbet Hill Farm was a working Black Angus cattle farm. When we set out to build a restaurant on this land, we wanted to preserve the important history of the farm. Renovating the 100-year old post-and-beam cattle barn for our restaurant was the first step. We kept the energy and spirit of the barn intact, while providing an elegant, beautiful space to dine and socialize.

We are a family-owned business, and we are from Groton – indeed, many of our relatives dine at the Grill on a regular basis! Of paramount importance to us is that you are comfortable and feel welcomed in our restaurant. Our service is attentive and professional, without being overbearing. Our menu has variety to suit every palate. We welcome families with their kids and can accommodate virtually any size group. From the moment you step inside our doors our goal is to anticipate your needs and exceed your expectations. We look forward to serving you.

Wow... Just wow! Make sure you get a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance (not joking), it's well worth it. Wife and I were married in the barn and part of the package is first anniversary dinner is free - we've been going there for our anniversary ever since. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. Farm fresh, local ingredients; the menu frequently changes based on the season. My ideal summer evening would be sitting in the converted grain silo with a group of friends, enjoying a great bottle of wine from the large selection (or 3... It's a big table in there!) and the view of the hill from which the restaurant gets its name. It would also include the farmhouse grilled cheese and dipping tomato soup appetizer 👌. The service is phenomenal, the interior is beautiful, and expanded bar area really adds quite a bit of on demand seating which was desperately needed! Overall 5 stars, would give more if I could!

One of my favorite restaurants. Awesome food, drink, and service. They grow some of their own veggies in their green house. Had my wedding rehearsal dinner here and 1 and 2 year wedding anniversary dinners. Try the crab cakes!!

Absolutely the best restaurant in the area. It's one of the few places you can go to get great fresh food and feel both at home with your kids as you do dressed up for nice evening out on the town. I've never had a bad meal here ever, the only downside is that if you want to get a table during busy weekend hours you'll probably need to make a reservation in advance.

We arrived early for an 8pm reservation, with hopes of sitting at the bar to have a drink. Unfortunately the bar was jammed with reserve seating on the bar itself. Food here is excellent! We had a party of 6 with a variety of entrees choosen. My son's steak was undercooked to his liking, he received a new one basically in the time it took our waitress to get to the kitchen and back. Reasonable priced for the quality of the food and a very rustic atmosphere. All in all worth the trip.

One particular Bartender had ruined the restaurant for us. Three visits, and she was miserable each time. Spend good money and eat three courses, and happy to tip, but she makes every effort possible to make you feel as if you are bothering her when you need or want something.....like a drink for example. Food is good, atmosphere is also good. Returned recently, service has gotten worse. And food has not changed, no reason to return.
