Good place, a lot of options ( gym, pool, cycling , classes like zumba) but the staff isn't friendly and it's expensive.

Poor business practices. When you join, they never tell you that you're signing a contract that you have to pay even if you stop going to their facility.

At first I loved going to the pool therapy classes, as I am supposed to be doing pool PT for the rest of my life, doctor's orders. But after a while I started getting rashes all over my body. At first I didn't know why, until I started comparing stories with other women and men who were also taking the pool classes, and come to find out, many of them had rashes and other side effects also. I asked what disinfectant they were using for the pool water, and they said it was Bromine. I looked up Bromine on the internet and read several articles. Come to find out, Bromine is considered a toxic substance, and causes many unhealthy reactions, including skin rashes, but also others, including possible gastrointestinal effects. For myself, I started having trouble breathing at night. My sinus membranes would swell shut and it was very frightening. I know I am allergic to Iodine, and Bromine apparently affects me much like Iodine does. I stopped going to the poo for several weeks. Then I went back one more time, and my sinus membranes swelled shut again. I struggled for hours to try to clear them. Salt washes just makes it worse at first, and reacts in a bad way with the Bromine effects. It is so frigthtening, that I have resolved not to go back to the Wellenss Center (isn't that ironic? going there makes us sick!) again until they stop using Bromine. Several of the other pool users have made the same resolve. One woman gets diareaha from it. I had used the therapy pool at an excellent Swim Center in Minden, NV for years, 2004-2012, where they use chlorine as the disinfectant, and never had any problems. During the Holidays just past, I was visiting a daughter in Seattle and used a therapy pool at a local Auquatic Center, where they use chlorine as the disinfectant, and had no problems there. So it is definitely the Bromine that has made me sick and threatened my breathing ability. So users, be ware. Some of us are asking the administration of the Wellness Center to change the disinfectant they use, so we can continue our therapy classes. We need them. This is supposed to be a Wellness Center, to help people get well and stay well, not make us sick. Don't close the pool. That is not the answer. We need the pool, we just need it to be safe and not make us sick or life threatening. The Rev. Dr. Jane Foraker-Thompson Silver City, NM
