Yesterday I was told that my $500 dollar loan had been approved and that all I needed was to go to the nearest branch and sign docs.

I was not told there was a stipulation and I should bring proof of extra income. I coach pool and on average make around $300 dollars a month doing this. So when I arrive in my branch which just happens to be 35 miles from my house I am told I need proof to get my money. Would have been nice if I had been told this by the caller since if I had proof I would have had to return home to get it.

Since the small amount of extra income doesn't cause me to have to file taxes due to being on Social Security I have no proof as it is a cash business no checks to show being paid.

I was told they might be able to have underwriter approve just on my Social Security income. I am a frugal man and live quite well on my Social Security, in fact in a four year span - 2011 until 2016 I saved ten thousand dollars and bought a car from Hertz at a great price $7800 dollars for a 2013 Chevy Impala with 57000 miles on it. Runs great and have had it for about a year now.

So you would think that with my checking and savings account showing this money for the years 2011 to 2016 and accruing each month an underwriter might get that I don't have excessive financial obligations preventing me from paying off a $500.00 loan. Instead that underwriter goes by a strict formula which doesn't use common sense, something woefully lacking at Golden One. So I make a round trip of 70 miles wasting two hours of my time and accomplish zip. Thank you Golden One for this experience (NOT).

Okay I guess I have to share my experience since the customer service does not seem to be improving. First off I don't understand how you can take loan payments for other credit union accounts only Monday through Friday and not on Saturdays, it would be nice if they had a sign or something posted notifying you of this. Secondly, it's not very nice when you ask them to help you out and it's just a constant no!? This is now the second time that I've gone in and they tell me the other credit union account system is down and crashing their computers. Have they ever heard of offline assistance? I had no problems making my payment at Arrow Credit Union when the system is down and they just give an offline receipt. This particular Branch always makes me feel like they just slam the door in your face and tell you they cannot help you.... that is poor customer service at its finest. From now on we will NOT be going to this Credit Union or refer any family and friend here, because I'm just fed up with the lack of customer service at this particular location.

Golden 1 used to be awesome.  Then branches started closing and the phone numbers changed. Now it's impossible to call a branch direct. Customer service is good, when you can get through to them.

Not sure about their customer service but this is America and we do have more freedom than any other country in the world and our freedoms do not include the right to discriminate against someone who is not from a "golden1 preferred race".

Terrible service. They checked my social security several times when i opened the account. I went in to deposit because I had not received my debit card. When i walked in the lady that opened my account said we're closed she new full well i had not received my card yet. She denied me service. Today I needed some cash so I walked in and they said there was a problem with my social. They have it in triplicate and cant figure out why they have a problem with my social. I told her i would come back later to close the account because i didn't have time at the moment. She proceeded to close it then taking her sweet time.
