About

Genuine Japanese restaurant featuring Noodle Dishes & Home Cooking:

Story

"E-SHOKU-DO-GEN" 医食同源
is an old Japanese saying which means, "Medicine and diet proceeds from the same origin." This is the Gomen-Kudasai's business policy. If your daily diet is clean, healthy and well-balanced, you don't need to take medicine or supplements too often. You would always feel good and strong.

We are preparing our dishes with lots of NATURAL & ORGANIC ingredients including LOCAL produce & products, and trying to stay away from food chemicals as much as possible. Another important motto for us is: LOW SALT, LOW SUGAR & LOW FAT. Our big bowl of broth contains 2g organic sugar, 1.7g sea salt & NO FAT. Instead of adding lots of seasonings, we are using our house-made MOTHER SAUCE called WARISHITA.

GOMEN WARISHITA is made with ORGANIC SOY SAUCE, IMPORTED MIRIN, KOMBU SEAWEED, DRIED SHIITAKE MUSHROOM, BONITO CHIPS and MACKEREL CHIPS. These ingredients will sit together for 3 days, then will be cooked and fermented for months. Because of the long time fermentation, the deep flavors from oceans & mountains will be fused into the sixth taste called UMAMI. This special UMAMI is added to each bowl of noodle soup. That is why we don't need MSG. Every time you have a sip of noodle soup, you will experience the UMAMI and the power of fermentation which will boost up your immune system.

Our menu features many popular Japanese home & restaurant items which are recreated by Youko's own recipes: Hot or cold noodle dishes, rice dishes, appetizers, original sweets, a variety of teas, and a large selection of GLUTEN FREE & VEGAN OPTIONS. If you have some health issues, please talk to Youko. She will be happy to figure out a dish that makes you feel good.

EAT, STAY HEALTHY and BE HAPPY

The food is reasonably priced. The dumplings were delicious, and obviously made in house. Not sure why the black walls bother anyone, there was interesting artwork, plenty of light. Didn't stay for it, but there was an open mic.

Honestly, I love New Paltz, and was expecting it to be very good based on the reviews. However, once entering the restaurant, the walls are black, immediately creating a negative vibe. The food was bland, and very pricey. I have eaten at cheaper restaurants in NYC with better quality. Small portions. Would not go back again. Friendly waiters, sassy owner.

Delicious food. Friendly atmosphere. Excellent revolving art show. Saki, Japanese beers and teas.

Atmosphere was extremely gloomy and was pretty dark inside. Food tasted very bland, so I asked the waitress for soy sauce, she hands me a small container. Few minutes later, the owner begins to lecture and scold me for using too much. I was shocked, that she would reprimand a customer for using too much soy sauce, and in addition it was the waitress who handed me the entire container. Pros: The food was served quickly

Went because of the reviews. Found it universally bland. I really don't understand why people rated it so high. It was edible but not enjoyable. Definitely wish we went somewhere else. Service was good so I debated between 2 and 3 stars. Probably more like 2.5.
