I've had two parts replaced at Goodyear that I'm now having to replace at another mechanic. One part was replaced about 10 months ago and one part was replaced about a week ago. They also informed me that nothing was wrong when I called them to let them know that I was broken down on the side of the interstate two hours away from Oxford. My car had been in their possession for the past three weeks when this happened. A few days of that three weeks was because they forgot to call me and let me know it was ready. All in all, the worst experience I've ever had.

Fixed my tire by patching it. I asked them to fill my spare up while I was there. I drove the car less than a quarter mile home and parked the car in my garage. The next morning the tire was flat. I went to put the spare on and it was flat. I got to the store in another car and was told it was my fault that the tire had gone flat and that it was now a hole on the sidewall and that I would need to purchase new tire. I think this business is too busy to really care about service. There was not attempt to take any responsibility or to empathize with what happened. My sense is they could care less if I came or not so I'm not.

Took my car in for an alignment. They claimed it needed 3 new tires. Funny thing is, I took my car there right after picking it up from another tire store who had just told me the three tires were just fine and had plenty of life left in them. To top it off, they charged me a rack fee. Also, they are not actually a Goodyear shop even though it is decorated to look like one.

Here is a well though out analysis of the difficulty in finding a good mechanic - All mechanic shops have incentive to sell you parts and service. More business means more money. Some shops are more objective when they are giving you information on the health of your vehicle, while others may be more concerned about sales. For example, let's say you have the same car with the exact same 80% worn brake pads, and you are going in for a tire rotation (they will likely see your rotors and brake pads when doing the rotation). Shop #1 will see the brake pads are older and pretty worn, write up a bill on a clipboard, and come sit down by you in the waiting room to comfort you and bring you the bad news that you need new brake pads because yours are very worn. You will feel pressured to say "ok" and sign off on it. Sales oriented environment. On the plus side you have new brake pads, but you didn't really have to get them right away. They had some time left on them. Shop#2 will look at the same brake pads, finish the tire rotation, and as you pay for the tire rotation, inform you that the brake pads are getting pretty worn but still have at least a few thousand miles left on them, depending on how you drive. If you want to change them out now they will be glad to do it, but they are still functioning well now even though they are nearing the end of their wear. Purely objective information. I would be likely to say University is more like shop#1. On the plus side, they seem to do good work, and they have always been fast with me. I just tend to get a lot of bad news and tend to spend more money when I go there. I either leave there feeling screwed or feeling like my truck is badly taken care of.

Finding a good mechanic is always tough, but save yourself some time and look elsewhere. Brought my car in this morning to have routine maintenance. Upon dropping it off, I had a bumper sticker for a presidential candidate on the back of my car (my friend who picked me up confirmed that the sticker was there.) When I picked it up, I immediately noticed the sticker gone. I went inside and politely told the manager that, "I don't care that it's gone and it was only a $2 sticker, but you should know that it was there this morning and it's gone now." His response was, "We didn't take the sticker off your car." Word of advice University Tires: if someone comes into your store and isn't looking for any kind of handout AND has proof that your shop altered the car's aesthetic, you should probably just own up to it and try to rectify the problem with your staff. In addition to that, they were suppose to repair my headlight and failed to do a blinker check after they did, so I had to return to the shop to have the blinker replaced. And as I was pulling out of the shop, my check engine light came on. This place needs a reality check, and Goodyear should honestly consider sending down a representative to check on their franchise.
