Story

Granite City Food & Brewery®, a casual dining restaurant with an on-site brewery. Our initial restaurant commenced operations in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in June 1999. Our second restaurant, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, commenced operations in December 2000, and our third restaurant opened to the public November 20, 2001 in Fargo, North Dakota. We now have 26 stores operating in 11 different states. At Granite City Food & Brewery®, we serve signature beers, including Duke of Wellington (an English ale) and Broad Axe Stout (an authentic Irish beer), and entrees such as London broil. We offer a broad menu of items that are prepared fresh daily and are served in generous portions at reasonable prices. Our handcrafted beers are moderately priced and offer unique styles and flavors not typically produced by major breweries.

Our founders, Mr. Wagenheim and Mr. Burdick, have over 52 years of combined hospitality industry experience. Mr. Wagenheim's experience includes that of corporate executive, owner/operator, manager and consultant for hotels, resorts, and individual and multi-unit restaurant operations. Mr. Burdick, a brewing chemist, has over 30 years experience in the restaurant, hospitality and brewing industry in both corporate and private positions.

Shortly before we opened our third store, we launched our patented brewing process, Fermentus Interruptus™, which makes micro brewing for multiple locations more efficient. This process, conceived and designed by Mr. Burdick, allows us to ship sweet liquid called wort, from our central brewing facility to individual stores. When this liquid reaches the stores, we begin the fermentation process and complete the brewing. We use Fermentus Interruptus at all of our Granite City Food & Brewery® locations.

Great food and service. The beer is just so-so to my taste, but many people like it. I like the Asian Chicken Salad - it is a huge bowl filled with thin-sliced chicken breast, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, crispy Asian noodle "crackers" (not sure what those are called) and a thai peanut sauce. Almost too much to eat, but so tasty you'll try to gobble it all up. The meatloaf is also very good. They have revamped the menu in the last year or two - it's been a while since I have visited. We dined there on a Saturday at 5pm, and got seated right away. By the time we left, people were waiting outside for a table. It fills up fast and is a popular place.

Don't go here often, but usually in the bar area. The staff is always great and there never is much of a wait. Get growlers filled and they do a good job keeping them cold and ready when it's time to go. Food has been good for the limited items I've had. Also, their happy hour food is very good. Wings and shrimp especially. I've had the bison burger a couple times too. Very delicious..

Restaurant is gorgeous. Atmosphere is lovely. Service was TERRIBLE. Party of 8 for a holiday gathering, you'd think the server would see this as an opportunity to make a nice tip...nope. I would of bet money our server was high on something. Her eyes were half open the entire time, she was literally swaying when she was standing taking our orders. When asked if the fish and chips was any good she responded with a shrug of the shoulders and I quote "I don't know I've never even fished before" I will not judge the restaurant on this one visit and will return but hopefully this was realized by someone else and things were remedied.

I am very unhappy with my service today I have had the worst waiter ever. Two plates into the meal I finally was able to order a drink. I had to go to another table and retrieve silverware and ketchup for myself and my son. I immediately told him that I wanted French toast with strawberries whip cream and syrup. I have been here a half an hour and still have not been able to bring syrup to the table. I went up the the omelet station with the French toast and got it myself. My son ordered a lemonade they never brought it until I mentioned it once again that he did not receive a drink other than water. It was commercialed that it was an IRISH BRUNCH however, there is nothing Irish about this brunch. We come in quite frequently and enjoy our time here however would never have never came today if it wasn’t commercialized that was an Irish Brunch. The only good thing today was seeing the best cook up at the omelette and eggs Benedict station. Granite city you have a lot of work to make up for today.

Large, roomy atmosphere, so even when full you won't feel claustrophobic. Large tables with plenty of leg room, tall private booths. Food is excellent and their beer is even better! Personally recommend the Benny Bock. Had 6 pints. Very tasty and refreshing.
