"Your Health Is Our Business"

Grassroots is a family-owned and operated business that was established in 1968. In 1986 Marla and Meir Puni purchased their modest 1,500 square foot store, in a quaint shopping mall, in South Pasadena, California. In the early days, the restaurant offered soups, sandwiches, salads, frozen yogurt and their (ever popular) signature apple walnut muffins. The vitamin and grocery departments started small but were well suited for the health conscious consumer. Today, this homegrown family business, is bustling with positive vibes and great people.

The past 35 years has brought about many changes for Grassroots Natural Market & Kitchen. Over the years the store itself has undergone three complete remodels, which doubled its size and staff. The company has integrated more and more sustainable practices within their operation as well. We feel it is paramount to preserve our natural environment at Grassroots and it shows.

You won’t find anything but sheer quality at Grassroots. We provide an assortment of homeopathic remedies, vitamins, herbs, specialty grocery items, homemade food, allergy sensitive products and tantalizing juices. Whether you have been a customer since we first opened our doors, or it is your first time with us, we will make sure you feel at home and are taken care of as soon as you step inside.

Our mission is to provide health and happiness for everyone through our diverse product selection. We only carry products that are healthy, sustainable, environmentally friendly, ethically produced & locally sourced. Grassroots is always on the hunt for the latest and most innovative products that are socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. We also offer specialty organic, gluten-free, non-GMO and allergy sensitive products for those who require more attention to what they put in and on their body. It doesn’t just stop there. We also offer biodynamic, organic and vegan wines as well as varieties that have no added sulfides and or no added sugar. Our beer selection consists of raw, gluten-free, organic, vegan regular brews that pair elegantly with our homemade food and grocery items.

We understand that every person is different and what may work for one person may not work for the next. That is why we take the time to make long-lasting personal relationships, on an individual basis, so that we can help you to the best of our ability. What started as a small-scale eatery and market has blossomed into a cozy cafeteria-style food counter that satiates large crowds daily.

Next time you are in the Los Angeles area make time to visit our store. Go in and enjoy unparalleled service, quality supplements and wonderful homemade food.

Excellent small organic food market and great customer service. Great energy in this market. Great food at their restaurant too.

Overpriced. I'm not sure what's with these kind of health stores, but there always seems to be a stuck up snobby energy with their over priced food. I got vegan chili and asked for cilantro on top and this other woman who wasn't even helping me, told her make sure u charge her an extra 95 cents for that. Ugh. 12 dollars for a small bowl of chili and a chia pudding cup. Not worth it.

This is a great little market with some hard-to-find items. Looking for specialty cooking ingredients or specific allergy friendly Foods, this could be a good option. The hot and cold food bars are deliciously prepared and the staff serving them are knowledgeable about all the ingredients. The juice bar is also excellent. The reason for three stars is because the service on the other side of the store -I have found- to be very poor. I have had multiple rude encounters with the older store clerks. Perhaps these are the owners? When I ask a question about an item or where to find something, I'm often treated as if I am a huge inconvenience to their store. I don't really understand why but for some reason they don't seem to have time to answer my questions. It's a shame because I think a store like this should be a friendly and welcoming environment. And it is just that on the food bar side but unfortunately not in the grocery store side.
