Story

Great Lakes Gelatin began as a premier gelatin maker in the world. Our journey began in 1922 as Grayslake Gelatin. From the beginning, our goal was to supply the highest quality gelatin to both the commercial and consumer markets. In 1988, Grayslake Gelatin became Great Lakes Gelatin Company as demand for our products continued to grow. Originally used as a functional ingredient in products such as gelatin desserts and vitamin capsules, our pure collagen protein gelatin soon became an important supplement to health conscious people around the globe.
Motivated by positive consumer feedback and passion for health, Great Lakes Gelatin continued on our mission as a forward thinking company. Built upon research and development, our efforts taught us about the tremendous benefits that collagen protein brought to our customers and even their pets. As processed foods became more popular, we realized that people were being deprived of the essential collagen protein that their bodies needed to sustain healthy bone and tissue function.
We have a passion for helping and educating people. In 2010 our president made a breakthrough that changed the industry in a way that that would benefit our customers for years to come. Great Lakes introduced a new product, Collagen Hydrolysate, which is made soluble in cold or hot liquids. This innovation made our collagen protein more convenient than ever for the health conscious consumer to integrate into their everyday lifestyles.
The rest became history as the Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate became known as the world standard for the purest Collagen protein.
At Great Lakes Gelatin, we go above and beyond to safeguard the quality of our products. The cattle that we source are grass fed and pasture raised in remote regions of Argentina and Brazil. We have built strong relationships with the local cattle farmers who nurture only pasture raised cattle as we believe that quality begins at the most basic source. We will continue to go the extra mile to bring you products that meet or exceed the U.S. Pharmacopeia Standards of quality.
