We came in late and got a last minute spot due to someone else canceling. The campgrounds are fine. Standard fare for a state park. The beach here is amazing. The water is beautiful and there are not many people on the beach. The dogs were not allowed on the beach in the state park, but they have an exit at the south end called the dog gate and the dogs are allowed on the beach just outside the park. We will be going back soon.

Family was staying on campground for 5 days. We rented pavilion for family reunion on a Sunday but when everyone showed up they charged each vehicle $5 when we were told as guests before showing up it was free. This is why it's a bad review. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing when it comes to communication with the staff. Also more bathroom for the location would have been nice as we had 50 people an closest bathroom was around 3 min walk. All together there are plenty other sites with more amenities that stay true to customer service so I would not recommend this place to anyone

It is our first time here and I am unimpressed with the lack of trees in the RV area which is the entire center of the park. We are in a tent so we do have trees and shade. The sites are not private from the neighbors though... from my room to the neighbors we could see each other 👎🏻😳 that is uncomfortable. The beach is across the street with private camper access, however, the hurricanes wiped out two of the crosswalks to get there so, after you park you have to walk with all your stuff quite a ways. Now, let's talk about the state park rangers... I believe they are a little too serious here! They drive by every few hours and nit pick you to death. I feel like I am in elementary school. One this morning approached my tent while we were in BED to nag me. Are you kidding me? I came to relax! We don't drink, smoke, party or anything so we are pretty boring and in our 50's and really not in need of constant supervision. We won't recommend this park or be back. Right down the road is tommoka state park and they allow you to chill and all sites are private and shaded. So, sad to write negative things. By the way we had fun inspire of the sphincter patrol!

First off, if you're a tent camper, don't stay here. I'm sure it is great(maybe) for all of the RV people, but this is not a secluded location in any site. Not visibly, not audibly, and forget it if you don't want the rec area staff bothering you because the guys on the golf carts act more like Nazi Officers than park staff. We got yelled at for driving 8 miles an hour instead of the posted 5mph, and yelled at again for moving a turtle out of the road. The photos on reserveamerica highly misrepresent what the sites look like, and how close together they are. If there's ppl camping next to you, or even two sites away from you, you're going to see, hear, and smell everything they do the entire time. The mosquitoes and sand fleas are absolutely terrible on the river side, and ocean side has ZERO shade, not to mention they still haven't made repairs since the 2016 hurricane season. My advice is to visit for the canoe and kayak options and the slight chance of viewing wildlife. Other than that, my suggestion is to stay ANYWHERE else if you're any kind of naturalist camper or tent camper.

Quiet, beautiful place for a vacation. We only stayed a weeked; however, I'm looking forward to support a full week. The rangers are super friendly and the facilities are the best I've seen so far on state own parks.
