The owner of the Gus and yiayia’s is the nicest person I’ve ever met. He is so sweet and has so much knowledge on the history of Pittsburgh. Definitely recommend to visit and at least say hi to him.

Great family-owned local business serving homemade Italian shaved ice from an actual frozen block. Gus also serves hot popcorn with butter and peanuts.

Made it to visit once this summer with my son. We enjoyed ice balls and peanuts to feed the squirrels. Stopped in yesterday and I guess they are closed for the season starting October?  I love this place, its been a tradition to stop with Gus since I was a child with my Grandfather and it mean so much to me to get to make the same memories with my son. See you next summer!!

Wonderful place! They have an excellent service and a large assortment of flavors for their delicious iceballs. Their popcorn is also awesome! Personally I love the butter popcorn, but if you are trying to lower the fats n'at... the non-buttered ones are also great!

Super cool hometown ice-ball cart. Note, they are open seasonally and are not outside during late fall and winter. The message on the cart is, "On The North Side Since Your Dad Was A Lad!" Almost a hundred years! Gus is still there! Originally was his dad's cart!  His grandchildren work with him as well. The are known for actual hand shaved ice-balls! They make them fresh each time. Better experience than the national chains offerings. Personally I think it tastes slightly better. His own flavors are great. He offers popcorn also. My mother says his popcorn is great! I agree. They are still doing a awesome business from what I can see. Recommended! Especially if you are looking for something neat to do near the city. Mostly, only locals know about it.

How can you not love Gus & Yiayia’s? My family has been coming here for years and we love it. Huge fan of the banana syrup. The peanuts and popcorn are first rate too!

We go here all the time but it was my nephew's 1st time and he had a blast. The people around are always so nice. You can feed the birds and squirrels. Kidz love it!!!!!

This place is the best shaved ice spot in Pittsburgh!!! Family Owned and has been there since b4 I was born showing my age 1983 lol I have gone since I was a child and my kids have gone!!! It's a special treat in our great city!!!!

Gus & Yiayia's is a Northside staple. Gus is an absolute legend and icon. He crafts the best popcorn with love, hand shaves ice, and flavors it with homemade syrups many flavors. If you're not familiar with Gus, truly consider yourself to be lucky to come across him and his ice ball stand. As a Pittsburgher, the excitement of seeing the rainbow umbrella on the side of the road by the tennis courts never fades.

My pap took me here as a kid growing up. There is no place I would rather go 35 years later. It simply is the best. Love this place!!! I bring all my family and friends here now. Never ever ever disappoints.
