Halotherapy/Salt Therapy is a natural therapy for respiratory and skin complaints like allergies, asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, colds & eczema-HaloSaltSpa

Story

1.What is Salt Therapy?

Salt therapy, also called halotherapy, is a holistic method that reproduces the natural micro climate of a salt cave by dispersing saline aerosol in a high concentration in a room whose surfaces are covered with layers of salt. The dry salt aerosol in the room plays an important role in the relief of health problems, and is used for patients with respiratory problems and skin conditions.

2. How does salt therapy work?

Patients sit in the salt room for 45 minutes and breathe in the fine salt aerosol, which is transported to the smallest bronchi, or airway passages, in the lungs as well as to other parts of the respiratory tract such as the sinuses and nasal cavity. The salt particles act as an anti-bacterial agent, dissolving bacteria and pollutants lodged in the respiratory tract. These are then either coughed up by the patient or are expelled during the metabolic processes via the bloodstream. The treatment also reduces inflammation in the lungs, thins out mucus build-up, improves lung function and opens up breathing passages.

3. What ailments can halotherapy be beneficial for?

• chronic bronchitis • asthma • hay fever • ear infection • breathlessness, chest tightness • pneumonia after acute stage • bronchiectatic disease • smoker's cough (including secondary smoke) • cough with viscous sputum discharging with difficulties • dry, paroxysmal cough with distant rates • dry rales (mostly with low tone) changing its localization during auscultation • frequent acute disorders of respiratory tract • pharyngitis • multi-chemical sensitivity syndrome • sinusitis/sinus inflammation • respiratory infections • respiratory allergies to industrial and household pollutants • rhinitis • tonsillitis • eczema and more.

4. How many sessions are recommended?

For people with colds, flu symptoms, ear infections or other temporary respiratory discomforts, 1 to 8 sessions can be very effective. For chronic respiratory and dermatological conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, allergies, psoriasis, etc., it is strongly recommended to complete 12 to 20 sessions of 45 minutes each, in as short a time period as is feasible. Salt room treatment is most effective when it is administered at least twice a week or more frequently. It is advisable to repeat the therapy 1 to 3 times per year to maintain the positive results. For recreational, relaxation and stress relieving purposes, sessions can be taken as many times as desired.

5. What results can patients expect?

Thousands of patients have been successfully treated by speleotherapy (treatment in natural salt caves) in Canada, Russia, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Austria and Germany since the early 1900s. Clinical studies have also been conducted and the results demonstrate that after a series of treatments completed within a prescribed amount of time (twice a week), patients’ breathing became less labored, symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath were improved, and medical drug usage was decreased significantly.

6. Is salt therapy safe for children?

Salt therapy is not only safe for children, it is highly recommended. It is a 100% drug free, non-invasive and comfortable treatment with no side effects or potential health hazards. The treatment is suitable for children of any age (as young as 1 month old). Children, in fact, respond to the therapy even more quickly than do adults.

7. Why is it so relaxing inside a salt room?

Salt has the natural ability to balance out the positive charge in our bodies by binding the excessive positive ions with the salt’s negative ions. The neutralizing forces of salt cancel out positive charged and harmful electromagnetic vibrations in our environment (electro-smog), as well as in our body. Hence, salt therapy has de-stressing and relaxing effects.

As explained below, the experience my sister and I had at Halo Salt Spa was disappointing. However, when the owner read the review below she called to rectify the situation. She was very apologetic, accepted responsibility and offered us another session or a refund. Since I live out of state we asked for a refund. We appreciated the fact that the owner was quick to respond and address the issues we had. Perhaps our experience with the spa was an anomaly and we should try them again someday. Our experience at the Halo Salt Spa Sunday, May 7th was disappointing. The website claims many options for types of massage such as hot stone, cranial sacral, etc. When we called to make appointments we were told that therapists that offered these types of massage no longer worked there but the receptionist claimed that she would try to find someone to accommodate us. Not only did she not communicate our desire to the therapists she failed to tell one of the therapists that she had changed our appointment time. When scheduled, our appointment was for 2:30. On Saturday I received a message that our appointment was at 2:00 (not 2:30) and that we could use the salt room either at 1pm or 3pm. Since our massages were to be 90 minutes I wasn't sure how this would be possible, but called and confirmed we would come for a 1pm salt room session prior to our 2pm massage. At the end of our 45 minute salt room session we were told that one of the massage therapists was running late due to traffic. The fact is she hadn't been told of the changed appointment time and rushed to arrive. Needless to say she was stressed when she arrived which is not conducive to a relaxing massage. We also overheard the two therapists conversing and it was obvious that they had never worked together and the therapist who had received word about the change in time wasn't very kind to the late therapist although it certainly wasn't her fault. There was little time to discuss what we wanted in a massage and my sister certainly did not get what she wanted. It seemed as though the salt room is what most clients are there for and massage is an afterthought. The salt room itself doesn't live up to the hype; if there was a salt mist sent into the room there was little evidence of that. The reception/ waiting area is small, crowded (few places to sit) and frankly noisy for a spa that is supposed to be relaxing. It certainly isn't worth the price, especially for massage, unless perhaps you get a great groupon deal. I wouldn't recommend this spa.

This is the greatest hidden oasis in Westlake Village. It's in a plaza downstairs next to the beautiful water fountain. The salt room is really amazing
