This is a staple of Hamden and is the unofficial center of the town.  It has been here probably since the town has been here.  It has gone under a few renovations and has improved Everytime.  The stores have kept up with the times and fashions.  The additional stores across the street added about a decade ago was a welcome site and needed addition.  The grounds are kept neat and clean.  Nice place to shop.

Great place to get a lot of your shopping done. Shop Rite is of course the main attraction but having shops like Party City, Pearle Vision, and plenty of places to grab a quick bite it's one stop shopping. Also it's extremely close to Walmart and the Edge as well as Starbucks. The Hamden Mart is the one place you can go and really spend a good amount of time and accomplish a lot. It's also very easy to get in and out of but be careful because the parking lot is a nightmare of dead ends, awkward dividers, and people who can't seem to figure out where to look for incoming traffic. The parking lot could certainly benefit from clearer lines and more stop signs.

Found three stores, well marked, with plenty of parking. But be careful! Some parking spaces are so close to the main driveway that  you  don't know  you're getting close to the driveway until you're in it. Another shopper almost hit me broadside that way.

The Hamden Plaza is a strip of stores spread out over about half a mile on the east side of dixwell avenue.  It has a variety of stores from supermarkets to shoe stores.  It that gone under a number of construction changes over the decades and has improved greatly.  There used to be a art installation of old cars covered in tar which has since been removed which gave the plaza character.  The town has built up the area with the additional stores across the street which increases the traffic in the area.  The property managers need to improve the flow of traffic though which is the only downfall I can see.  It is very convenient to shop here.

The area isn't the best but the stores there are all nice to go to. Just be careful of the riff raff in the parking lot. Keep children close and keys in hand!
