Comments, posts, and messages are welcome on HPL social networking sites. The library recognizes and respects differences in opinion, but all postings will be monitored and reviewed for content, relevance, and adherence to HPL Policies. Postings will be removed from HPL social media sites if they contain any of the following:
• Obscene, racist, or sexist content
• Threatening language, insults, or personal attacks
• Libelous statements
• Plagiarizing or posting copyrighted material without permission
• Posting private, personal information of another without consent
• Comments, postings, and hyperlinks not related to the content of the forum
• Advertising and solicitation
• Organized political activity
If a posted comment is found to be in violation of HPL policy, it will be removed and the person responsible for the post will be sent a private alert message via the social media site where the comment was posted. The message will alert the patron that the comment was removed due to HPL Policy violation. The message will restate the policy and explain the consequences if the policy is violated a second time. The second violation will be handled similarly and will include notification that a third offense will result in being removed as a “friend/fan.”
HPL reserves the right to edit or modify any postings for space while retaining the intent of the original post. HPL retains the right to reproduce posts, comments, and messages from HPL social media sites to other public venues. For example, a response to a program or book review may be quoted on the HPL website.
