Hamstead and Associates is a small law firm currently comprised of two attorneys who provide personalized representation and experience.
The firm offers a unique merger of real estate law and real estate litigation knowledge and experience. It also provides a broad base of legal services to individuals and businesses, ranging from the simple writing of Wills to full-blown litigation (with jury). Braun Hamstead began the practice of law as a partime Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and as a real estate closing attorney. He was elected Prosecuting Attorney for Jefferson County, West Virginia, in 1980. During his four year term as State's attorney he successfully prosecuted a cult leader for child abuse, prosecuted a defense attorney who tampered with the State's witnesses, and he was even once called upon to confront a Circuit Court Judge who improperly tampered with a grand jury.*
*State ex rel Hamstead v. Dostert, 173 W. Va. 133, 313 S.E.2d 409; 1984 LEXIS 382, involved the entry of a writ of prohibition against the circuit court judge precluding him from holding Mr. Hamstead in contempt of Court where the trial judge had exceeded the scope of his authority. "Today's case is an example of a prosecutor exercising sound professional judgment and integrity in the face of considerable personal duress," quoting concurring opinion of Justice Neely, Ibid at pg. 149; 425; 50.
