I have been electrical contractor for 22 years and dealing with this GC is by far the worst experience I have had in all those years. I have been awarded electrical contract for Harbor Freight Tools in Marion,IL . Found out that I am second electrical contractor on the job which automatically put me one week behind. Then,they started poring concrete floor in most of the building area(that wasn't on the schedule) which severely restricted my movement . Couldn't drive lift on gravel. Spent about 23K of my money on labor,materials,switch gear,equipment rental and after 4 days on the job they decided to hire yet another, 3rd one, electrical contractor,terminating my contract. For a week I was trying to get money that I have invested in the project back without success. The only bill that they paid was my switch gear order and that was paid only because it had benefited them, switch gear is made to order,3 weeks waiting time,so paying for the gear that I ordered saves them a lot of time.
I spoke with the owner Doug Campese and with their CPA Alan on the phone several times. I even agree to take a loss of 2500 just so we can move on. They started playing games,offering me 10000 instead of 16500 that I spent out of my pocket, basically spitting in my face. Mark Peterson,their project manager , is rude,unprofessional, totally full of himself individual.
Today I have sent them letter of intend to file a lien and in 10 days I will file a lien on the building. 
Please avoid this General contractor if you value your time and money. There are many General Contractors out there and most of them are good but GC's like Heartland make you think twice before you can trust them.

Wirked with hearleand on a harbor freight, by far the worst experience I've had with a gc. The site was never well secured due to the superintendent not being able to move much so couldn't install proper barricades. Needless to say the building got broken into several times. They never accepted any resposability for items stolen, I was told I needed to have insurance on my tool. Getting change orders approved was like pulling teeth, the project manager Mark Peterson was the rudest most unpfoffesional person I have ever had to deal with on a proffesional level. I was bullied by both the super and PM by doing a bunch of out of sequence work, they would by them threatening with me not receiving payment for work done. Was called a dog by the PM for trying to get a CO to finish work a couple weeks after scheduled finish date. It's been 75 days sense our 1st invoice and have still to receive payment, Will never work with them again I am glad I got out of there regardless 😞.
