It is part of the First State National Heritage Parks sites. Don't forget your Passport Stamps too. Small unassuming building, but filled with a ton of history. It wasn’t at this location originally, but you will learn more when you stop by. I highly recommend the full guided tour as it will be well worth it. They are well versed with the history during the tour that you would otherwise miss. With the full tour, you will also learn about the cemetery and church history. Well worth stopping by to understand the early years of our country's beginning. There is also a gift shop for those that want to take a reminder of the place home.
Absolutely fantastic! A must see if you're anywhere around New York/DC and interested in Swedish history, especially if you're from Sweden as I am. Of course you have to take the tour which is only 5 USD. We had a great and enthusiastic guide Kyle who told us about the church and the Swedish colony. Personally I have to say without a doubt this was one of the best and most interesting I've experienced anywhere in USA.
History buffs will love this place! The 1600's church and grounds. The orginal Church Street is there. Its landlocked by the train and industry. But still worth it!Visited onWeekendWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$11–15
An excellent introduction to the life of a Swedish family and what they would have as they settled in America. The many different items in the collection we explained. It was most interesting to see and touch Flax as we was being processed and then the final cloth.
Beautifully decorated for Sanka Lucia's day. Learned a lot about local history! As first time visitors to the site, we were pleasently surprised by how much history was here. We'll be back for sure.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Our tour guide, Seven Tucker would have made any tour at least five stars! The information he shared was fascinating and his passion for his tour was apparent from beginning to end. A visit to the Hendrickson house will not disappoint.
Don't come here. Three things. 1. Their website claims the offer tours. Their website lies, they don't. It's a self guided pamphlet. 2. The church is next to a human waste sewage treatment plant and the smell will stick to your clothes and linger in you car well after you're gone. 3. And lastly, and least important to me personally but of note to other people, this church is in a really rough part of town. Lock your doors and only go during the day time. Tourist trap. Take a pass.
Part of First State NHS. Excellent. Guide was very engaging & knowledgeable. Tour of 1st floor of house & 1600s church. Ancient graveyard. Enjoyable history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
After 3 years of living in Wilmington we finally made it here! Our tour guide Kyle was very informative, knowledgeable and excited to talk about the history here. He gave a wonderful one hour tour for only $5 a piece! A hidden gem in Wilmington's history that should not be missed.
So interesting! Lots of info on the early Swedes.
