Do your research first! Beware... Over the holidays the heater in our bedroom stopped working. Herr's was called and two men came out to look at the work. After investigation, it was discovered that an open window in the basement caused the pipes to freeze, which was the true problem with the heater. I foolishly left the men to "thaw" the pipes after I brought down a room heater. About 30 minutes later one of the men comes upstairs to tell me a part had "caught fire" on the heater, and it was miraculous that he was standing there just in time to put the fire out. The part had to be replaced. When he showed me the part, it had one tiny black dot on the circulator, but no smoke marks, the wires were still shiny and silver, and there were no other sign of smoke or fire other than the single black dot. In addition, the total bill came to over $600, Most of it was labor because they charged $125/hour for the mechanic PLUS $80/hour for the helper. The time started once they came in the driveway. Learn from my mistake. Surely there must be a trustworthy plumber in the area.

My wife and I had been satisfied customers of Herr's for quite some time but will never use them again nor would I recommend anyone else to use this once reputable company ever! Please let me explain, as it is so difficult when you have a local company you relied on and trusted turn around and cheat you. We were taken advantage of--gypped--because we were overcharged and swindled by two of their plumbers--we only know them as Damon and Mike. We had a plumbing job on our third floor and they both worked one day--a Tuesday--for 6 hours each, with Damon promising for both to come back Wednesday. Based on Damon's firm promise, we scheduled our carpenters to come in the next day, Thursday. Late Wednesday morning, Mike called to say they had two emergencies and would not come that day at all--I have kept a recording of Mike's phone call on my cell phone. I called Don, the head guy at Herr's, who said sorry, but I am stuck. Both Damon and Mike showed up Thursday and each worked 3 hours--Damon seemed furious apparently that I had called Don about them not coming in the previous day. In any event, Herr's sent me a bill for 3 full days labor for both plumbers--including the full day they never showed up, which set me back over a week as I had to reschedule the carpenters and lost them for over a week! I spoke to Don, who "compromised" and adjusted the charge to about two full days (this included one hour by one carpenter to install a toilet--I had to pay in advance though!). I really think Damon and Mike took advantage of my wife and I because we are older and my wife was very ill and on oxygen (my poor wife died soon after this) and I have heard of scams where plumbers will help out a friend and not charge their friends but add it to another job--like ours--in hopes they get away with it. So I don't know who is running this scam--just the two plumbers or the two plumbers and the company too, but in any event, I still was overcharged hundreds of dollars for labor--even with the compromise made by Don--since they did not show up at all for a full day--why should I have to compromise anything when they did not show up--only it was clear they would not finish the job I already paid for--so I was over a barrel. I mean, if you go to a restaurant and they bill you $100 for a steak you did not receive, why should the restaurant turn around when you complain and force you to "compromise" and pay "only" $50 when you never even got the steak? But, like I said, my bathroom was torn apart and it was clear they would not finish work unless I paid THAT DAY! But why should I have to pay anything for labor done on Wednesday when they never showed up at my home at all--doesn't Herr's keep track of where their plumbers are when they send them out on jobs? In short, we would recommend that NOBODY USE HERR'S PLUMBING & HEATING SERVICE, especially if you are older/senior citizen or infirm like us-- I guess they think you are an easy target. SHAME ON HERR'S PLUMBING for overcharging senior citizens on fixed incomes--SHAME! I hope the appropriate people at Herr's read this and make amends and do something to stop this practice or their reputation could wind up in one of their own toilets!!!

Just wanted to take a second to say thanks for running out to my place of business on such short notice, and even coming back to check on the issue when i thought that there was still a problem. I really appreciate that, when your running a business those are the things that make all the difference.
