My Great Grandparents Theodore & Mary (Roehl) Dirks & Henry & Mary (Lenhartz) Stork moved to Hinton, OK. in 1907 from New Market, MN. They lived on farms east & south of Hinton. They both had very large families. The Seurer's were another family who moved there from New Market. Kate Seurer married my Great Uncle Bill Dirks & they had Raymond, Sylvia, Lawrence & Jerry. Jerry (91) is the only one living (July 2015) & he is in Canyon, Tx. Jerry has shared many old photos & stories with me over the past 15 yrs. & he speaks of his relatives still in Hinton. My Mom, Julia Frances (Stork-Dirks) Gerber also told me of Hinton, OK., so I HAD to stop by one day after visiting family in Edmond. I went into the museum & was in total AWE! I felt transported backwards, in time! I was shown a small book about Hinton, which I bought, but what really opened my eyes were two hand-drawn large photos on the wall of Jerry Dirks' Seurer relatives! His Grandparents & his Great Grands! I snapped photos of them & showed them to some people back in MN. Someone said they had the original photos (or paintings?) & they were equally stunned to see that there were copies of their originals, & done SO WELL! I WILL be back to Hinton, to spend a night or two & find out all I can about the place where my ancestors lived. They did move on to Nazareth, Tx. in 1908, after 1/2 of the town burned down, & we future generations became Texans instead of Okies! I like both! We have so many relatives from Germany & MN who stayed in OK., we could say we are "both". A Dirks cousin told me recently at a reunion that the Dirks home SE of Hinton is still standing. Now I HAVE to go back! Maybe I'll meet the Seurers who are still there!
