Holy Cross Abbey is a Roman Catholic monastery of the Cistercian (Trappist) Order following the Rule of St Benedict. As a contemplative monastic community, we invite you to share our hospitality, silence, solitude and life of prayer.

Story

Hours listed are for the Gift Shop; please see our website for special announcements, including openings/closings. The Monastery grounds are open 24/7 and the Chapel (when not under renovation) is open from 3am to 8pm.

This beautiful monastery belongs to the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, a Catholic religious order also known as the Trappists. In addition to the stunning chapel, there is a porter's lodge which doubles as a religious book store and purveyor of monk-made products such as fruitcake, honey, jam, and candy. There is also a guest house for silent retreats. These retreats, and all of the monastic services in the chapel, are open to all. Most of the land is either inside the monastic enclosure (monks only) or being used for agriculture. Some areas are available for walking, particularly near the natural (not monastic) cemetery. Holy Cross Abbey makes a great good destination for a ride in the countryside.

+JMJ Heaven on Earth?! I think so! I love making Retreats! This Trappist run Retreat House is absolutely SUPERB!! The silence which permeated my soul with serenity, the nature beauty of the surrounding countryside, and the opportunity for quiet prayers and to join the Trappist community for early morning prayers and Holy Mass were soul repairing. Retreatants were required to keep silence which I greatly appreciated. However, at meal times (simple but delicious) the Guest House Master (at that time) would read faith-related excerpts from his selected book. Additionally, the Retreat House has a Chapel where Retreatants could visit for private prayer times. Just glancing back in my memory banks refreshes by entire spiritual being! Praise the Good God for such a Heavenly sanctuary!

A beautiful and sacred place to visit and support now and be interred later in their green cemetery.

A wonderful place to retreat. The facilities are excellent and the food is very good. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to experience the Cistercian way of life. I will go back again.
