I was looking to do a minor kitchen remodel in a cost-effective way in my 25-year-old townhouse, which still had its original basic kitchen. I already had a new granite countertop installed by a granite supplier, and I was looking for a contractor to paint my brown wood cabinets white, install a tile backsplash, install new luxury vinyl plank flooring, and paint the walls, ceiling, and trim. I interviewed six contractors for the job and in the end decided to go with Home Built Construction since they had the fairest price and Kemar seemed very understanding of what I wanted in the job. Specifically, I wanted to minimize both the costs associated with the remodel as well as the disruption to my house and kitchen during the process. From beginning to end, Kemar and manager Marjorie were extremely professional, attentive to my needs, and responsive to my questions. My needs actually changed slightly after I signed the contract, and without any hesitation, Marjorie adjusted the scope of the work to meet my needs, resulting in a slight decrease in total cost. Kemar and his crew showed up on time every day, and they completed the job within 5 days, just as he had originally predicted. Most impressively, my kitchen was usable during the entire process, since his crew cleaned up their equipment and mess each afternoon before they left for the day. This made the entire process much less disruptive than it could have been. The crew worked quickly and their workmanship and attention to detail was excellent. It was obvious that they had pride in the quality of their work. The tile backsplash was a difficult installation due to multiple small circular tiles and it came out looking fantastic. The new floor also looks great. There were several behind-the-scenes details that Kemar had to do to get the finished floor looking good, including shaving one of the wall cabinets to accommodate the new floor height as well as adjusting the floor near the transition strips to achieve a seamless effect. The most difficult part of the project was painting the original brown wooden cabinets white, because the cabinet doors were old, dirty, and greasy, making it very difficult for the new paint to conceal all the imperfections. Kemar and his crew spent all week - significantly more time than they had expected - trying to achieve as good a final look as possible. And in the end, Kemar went out to purchase an additional stain blocker to try to improve the appearance of the doors. Ultimately, the cabinet doors came out looking good but still show some minor imperfections upon close inspection, but I believe that is more due to the condition of the original doors themselves rather than any lack of effort on the part of Kemar and his crew. Throughout the process, Kemar kept me fully informed of his progress every day. Overall, I was thrilled with the final look of the kitchen. I was extremely happy with Home Built Construction, and I would definitely hire them again.
Job description discussed with owner not included in estimate. Every handle on cabinets installed crooked. Door installed with no handle or knob. Installed carpeting first before spackling then tracked dirt and spackle on new carpeting . Nevertheless very eager for payment for sub par work. Never again!
This company has done work for me over the part 3 years and is my go to contractor. They are very professional, flexible and responsive. The crew worked quickly and maintained a safe working environment and cleaned up thoroughly upon completion. They kept me in the loop at every stage of the project and explained and sought approval for any deviations. Very pleased with the work they did.
Kemar and his team replaced a shower for me in my en-suite bathroom. Their work was great and were very communicative about what work was being done. I hired Kemar and his company for two jobs. My experience has been day and night. For the first job, we converted a portion of the attic into office space. This included flooring, walls, electric, and running ductwork for ac. There was a crew of three always present working full days. While there were aspects of the job I was not happy about damage to our stove because of a dropped crowbar, damaged drywall to an adjacent room not part of the job, and some carelessness with our existing hardwood floor, but we were generally okay with the work done. For the second job we spruced up an old barn. Kemar said the job would be complete in 3 weeks, yet after 8 weeks there are still tile flooring that are coming up, shards of metal protruding from the windows, screws sticking out from the stair risers, an unsecured bannister, and a very noticeable hump in the middle of the floor. The quality of service was greatly reduced and we will need to hire someone else to fix the work. Rather than three workers, Kemar left a single person that was sometimes not left with the proper tools to do the job or noticeably under-skilled. The most consistent worker did quality work, but said on multiple occasions that Kemar didn't provide enough material, should have given him a second worker, and that some of the work Kemar completed himself would have been done differently if that worker had done it. Two of the other workers smelled like alcohol and drugs and didn't seem to do anything while they were on the job. Kemar would also show up at very inconsistent times ranging from 10 am to 5 pm and worked for around 2-5 hours. There were three days that Kemar said that he was on his way and never showed up at all. It seems that once he received payment he was content dragging his feet and entertaining other projects. My wife and I tried to be accommodating, and expressed to Kemar that we had hard deadlines for the project, but never received any more concern, effort, or a full day's work from Kemar. As a result, our plans had to be canceled. I'm sure that if we received the level of professionalism, respect and care that we received for the first project, this project would have been completed. Kemar is personable and easy to like and it's a shame that this project turned out so poorly. I cannot recommend Home Built Construction in earnest.
Far and away the best contractors I have ever worked with. After getting screwed by a few different contractors I decided to give Home Built a try. Best decision ever! They converted a basement toilet into a full bath for a reasonable price and in record time. The team is wonderful and collaborative. They were so great I had them back a few months later to re-do another bathroom that turned out beautifully. As soon as we have another project we know who we will be using!
Super happy I went with Home Build Construction for my recent projects. Kemar and his team delivered on everything I asked for in a timely manner. Couldn't have hoped for a better experience. Far more reasonable pricing than other contractors brought in for quotes a few that stated they couldn't provide me with what I was asking for, while Home Built DID. My now go-to contractor.
