Greenville County Library System

Story

Established in 1921 with only 500 books, the Greenville County Library System has grown into eleven locations and a website offering information, entertainment, and enrichment with nearly 1 million available items. Visit any branch and you will find a welcoming place offering free Internet access, books, DVDs, music, online resources, research assistance, genealogy help, programs for all ages, and much more. A bookmobile serves the rural parts of the county and homebound service is available to those who cannot visit a local library.

This was thee most annoying library I have EVER been to. They purposely make it so that you only want to stay for an hour at best because ALL of their staff take their job way too seriously and aren't very helpful. I came to read some research and let my kids read. A couple hours in we wanted a snack so we walked to the cafe. The cafe was permanently closed so I pulled out chips and a man immediately came over as if I had broken the commandments and told me no outside food. I said ok and got up to walk back to our things to put the small bag away and a lady shouted from the counter no outside food and ran out to us. I then asked where was the water fountain and a staff member said she wouldn't recommend anyone drink from it smh... I will not be bringing myself or my kids back to be harassed over silly stuff.

I just received my library card. The process was smoothe and easy. I look forward to plenty more visits in the near future

Horrible place to study or do work. It seems that people come here to chat with friends rather than to study or get books. Everybody in the lower floor is loudly talking, kids screaming, and nobody interferes.

In 20 yrs I had no complaints until now. I was hoping to see about the due dates on the books I had w me (& I asked just that). The response from the middle aged black woman w a bright red sweater , was "u can put the books over there it's just the two of us" she snapped. I left. At least these could've mentioned "I'm sorry ma'am I'll get someone for u asap OR my apologies for the delay..I'll b right w u or ma'am u can upstairs they may help u" I didn't hv my library card, no fon & photoID w me. I just hope that is the last time I'll encounter such mess

I had a very bad experience recently, July 2017. I had returned my books and received a notice that one book was not checked in. I went back three times after many hours of looking. It wasn't until today that one of the staff went upstairs to try and find it and did. For several weeks I had been frantically looking for this $80.00 book that I knew I had checked in but I could not prove it. Only one staff member got up from behind the desk to go upstairs to verify whether or not it was there and that was after I was exhausted, teary and begging for help. No one emailed me or notified me of the book's location. There needs to be a system in place for their patrons that verifies their book returns.
