The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a limited admit, adoption guarantee facility dedicated to placing every dog and cat in our care into a loving home, and to promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs.

Mission

Adoption guarantee means that every animal that is admitted to our shelter is free from the threat of euthanasia due to time, space, or treatable medical issues. We have been helping homeless animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936.

I have adopted a couple of puppies from the Humane Society of Greater Miami. I recently brought them a tiny kitten  because it was too young for me to take care of properly. Paola found a foster right away and she was kind and helpful (and even stayed late to do so). I'm looking forward to going back to adopt the kitty in a month or so when she is old enough for me to bring home to add to my family of companion animals. Thank you for the great work you all do caring for these wonderful creatures!

Wonderful facility.   The Staff are pleasurable and helpful.   Facility is well maintained.   They are doing additional improvements  and decoration.   It is right off 163rd street and Dixie highway.   The boutique inside has a nice selection of leashes, collars, etc.  Would come back again and highly recommend this location.

Great shelter, amazing staff. We got a very lovely 10 month old kitten here 10 days ago. The girl who helped us find Oliver knew each pet by name, even their personalities. She helped us pick the absolutely perfect pet for us. The shelter was super clean and I love how they vet each potential adopter carefully. They care about the animals here. Please go adopt. They have so many animals that need forever homes!

This place has so many cute doggies and cats! (Not a big fan of cats, but it’s nice for cat lovers !!) I adopted my puppy from here when he was about 9 months old. Now he’s 1 year & 5 months old!! Definitely will come back to adopt another doggy!! 😍😍😍

Today being my day off, I was really excited to take a trip up to the animal shelter in Aventura in hopes of finding my best friend. When I walked in, a girl with heavy eye liner and a poorly bleached front section of her hair told me (without looking up at me, just continued her work on the computer) what to do- “Walk around, find a dog you like, come back and fill out an application.” I found two small dogs I really liked. When I came back around the front desk an older lady sitting to the girls right (curly, short grey hair) began to assist me. She didn’t really seem interested in helping me though as her tone of voice was demeaning and rude. I asked her about an orange pup I saw and she struck me down. The dog was given up because it’s “bipolar”... basically implying it’s not for me... The second dog I asked was Marley but nope! “Sorry he bites.” She then told me to look at bigger dogs because “they’re sweeter”. I mentioned I’m pregnant and wanted a companion of the smaller family. That’s when both ladies tore my heart in two. They said I shouldn’t even consider adopting a dog because I’m pregnant- they were certain after my baby was born I would be back to return the dog! I grew up with both a dog and cat- I loved it. I want the same for my daughter. These ladies really put me down in front of everyone and let me walk out of there almost in tears. The customer service needs attention here. I really hope these ladies don’t speak to every single person who walks in that shelter the way they spoke to me. Awful. And I’ll never come back or recommend anyone to this place. I’ve had two of my cats spayed here and I came back because I was familiar with the place. I feel bad for these dogs. If the people working there are bad mouthing all of these innocent dogs then I wonder how they are even getting adopted. I’ll be filing a formal complaint as well with the shelter.
