Story

Huntington High School is a four year high school located on top of a hill just outside Huntington, West Virginia. It was established in 1996 through the consolidation of the old Huntington and Huntington East High Schools. The school has a student body of approximately 1600 students. Huntington High School carries the Highlander mascot with the colors old gold and hunter green. The Huntington High Staff consists of a principal, five assistant principals, five counselors, 142 teachers, five secretaries, an athletic director, and 10 custodians. Eleven cooks staff the cafeteria and offer a variety of both hot and cold lunch selections daily. Four administrative offices can be found throughout the building to facilitate the needs of both students and staff. The award winning curricular and extra-curricular programs offered at Huntington High School provide activities for all areas of interest. Huntington High is accredited by the North Central Association. In 2010, Huntington High School was featured in Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Television show on ABC. In 2016, after the filming of this television show focused on moderating eating habits and fighting obesity, the Cabell County Board of Education announced the school would pilot a program of unlimited and free food for all students regardless of socio-economic status.Huntington High School (which combined "Old" Huntington High School and Huntington East High School) was originally called Cabell West High School during the school project planning period. The name was then changed to Huntington Summit when the name of the other public high school in Cabell County was changed to Cabell Midland. The Cabell County Board of Education then decided that the new school should have connections to the two schools, Huntington High and Huntington East, that were being consolidated together. That is why the new school kept the Huntington High School name and then adopted the Highlanders mascot from the soon to be closed Huntington East High School. The new school colors have no connection to the old high schools.

Great school with amazing teachers. There is a daycare there too which helps out a lot of students. I recommend taking theatre one of the best classes there. You won't regret going there at all.

I was very concerned about my daughter starting there after all negative things I had heard. However I was very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful this school is and how caring. Her GAP went from from 2.6 to making the honor roll constantly. I am proud to give them 5 stars.

the students are treated like criminals, the lunch is awful, besides pepperoni rolls, it's FAR too easy to get suspended, lack of any substantive classes, there's a massive drug problem at the high school, the only decent class is their Army JROTC program, there's a dangerous environment, they NEVER help students, and I mean never, they miss all meetings between teachers and parents, they never listen to what the students have to say, and they wasted $750 grand to kick all the students off the internet by creating hundreds of new networks, which, in the process, made the internet speed FAR SLOWER, massive crime problem. Daily fights, one of the students faked his death. Several overdoses, people steal locks off of stall doors, and one stole an entire stall door! the only good experiences I truly had were in english, JROTC, science, and maybe math. One teacher made comments about how she would be okay with another student assaulting me, although I will not name names. Refusal to work with, and accommodate students to cater to their needs, causing many students' grades to suffer as a result of poor leadership, and coordination with parents and student body. They also made awful decisions completely against the wishes of the student body. Their refusal to allow the use of audiobooks makes it especially hard for students, who have trouble retaining information that one has read, like myself, to succeed. Ultimately, I'm glad I moved to Massachusetts and out of this school system, however, I will miss JROTC, and the cadets in the program.

This place really is terrible full of stuck up kids that act tough but can’t back it up. The teachers are rude. And this place is the one place that can make you feel sad and alone and of course half the kids will suck up and try to say this school is good but trust me it’s terrible.
