5540 S Hyde Park Blvd was a place I could call my "home away from home". Through my stay, the place has began to develop and renovate keeping it's "old fashioned" charm. From my experience, management has done a fantastic job with professionalism and addressing tenant concerns. The place has a focus on housing tenants who are young professionals, UIC students and medical students. I already knew what I was getting into as I viewed the building/rooms and by reading the floor plan online, I already knew the size and shape of my room along with the amenities. During my stay there, I have referred many fellow medical students who've eventually moved in. 

Pros: Good area, renovated rooms, excellent management and staff, home away from home feeling, relaxing common area and competitive pricing.
Cons: Shared kitchen (but that's something you factor into your decision before moving in). For me, it was a good place to socialize, learn to cook new dishes and get to know my neighbors.

These guys are great! They go the extra mile to accommodate you and their team is very kind. Wonderful building (pool table, gym, ping pong table, vending machines, pianos, nice furniture, clean laundry room...). It's also very secure- perfect for the visiting student! You'll also meet nice and interesting people from around the world here. Best place I've stayed at for all these reasons and more.

For the negative comments, i would like to say a few things. I just moved here a month and half ago. By all means this place is amazing, 24/7 administration, maintenance, and security. I came to see the apartment that was advertised and before i made my decision I was told that some other studios are available and as soon as i saw the 2nd one i fell in love with it and moved in the next day. The place has a full maintenance and I'm not sure how can people be hypocritically full of lies.
I really hope to live here because the team goes an extra step to make it easy for us and accommodate us.

Please do not, by any means come here.   Firstly, the room that they sent me didn't look how it was advertised as well as it was smaller than a child's bedroom. There were also school children's paintings all over the walls? Not sure what that was about but it was super ugly. The place looked very run down and smelled of gas and insect repellent. Also, the community bathrooms are a definite no go. Your health is not worth the risk staying here. Lastly, I had an issue with a money order that I was GOING to use for my down payment and obviously I wanted to cancel it but Walmart informed me that I couldn't return it to them once the money order was assigned. I explained this to them and they (the property manager jc) straight up refused to help. So now I'm out over $600. Please, just stay away.

They're so quick at replies and always super helpful.  The place is being souped up continuously and the student accomodations make my life easier.  Lots of buses scheduled regularly makes it so i can get where I need to go at anytime.  The crew have made adjusting to Chicago much less stressful.  
It's rare to find as supportive and dedicated landlord/maintenance staff.  I'm glad I heard about this place in time.  10/10 I'd recommend this place.  
To update a previous review's mention of child paintings on walls; they were literary quotes that most children would not have understood.  I thought they were pretty cool.  They are being painted over now, solid blue paint, no more words, down with reading.  The buildings are older and smell of older buildings... not insect repellant; tho at one point it most likely did smell of repellant, probably to take care of insects (rip) and not as air freshener.  Currently it doesn't smell of repellant.
