Incredibly unprofessional and have broken MANY HIPAA laws tonight. They placed us in a random hallway and have been sharing everyones medical information! Even had registration come down and blast all of our private and SECURED information as well. Random people are allowed to walk by at any point, janitors everyone. If this is the situation you are in it needs to be addressed beforehand. People expect to be treated with Privacy and some form of comfort. Covid and Influenza A patients are in the same area as people who are susceptible to illness or fresh out of surgery! how do I know this? There are feet away We even have a CANCER patient who is around these illnesses! Absolutely unacceptable. On the Positive note. The nurse I have. Is the sweatiest thing and has moved me as far away from other patients as possible. But this is still a HIGH traffic area and there is no privacy. Lawsuit waiting to happen
We live in Dubuque and my son was having some mental issues he is 16 and Lutheran was the only place with a bed open in peds, we sent him there and he was there from 1 am Friday the6 until the 10th. We were not able to visit but were able to speak to him every day while he was there. The nurses were awesome every time i called to talk to him or if I just simply had a question. He said that the nurses and also the doctors were totally awesome and got him a great start on getting better. And they set us up with some local services to help him along. Would recommend mental health services at this place..
Absolutely a pathetic excuse for a medical facility. The lack of coordination between departments, communication to the patient, and overall lack of care has me beyond the point of frustration and to the point I’m leaving my first negative review in my 31 years of life. I couldn’t imagine being twice my age or any age for that matter and expecting this “hospital” to give me any care needed, in a timely manner.
Substandard accounting indicates substandard healthcare services. This facility sent me a bill 13 months after a visit. I had to google this clinic’s location because I was so unfamiliar with it, and learned that I visited their facility on one occasion blood test purely out of convenience *13 months ago*. Today, a rep blamed the delay on my insurance company. But that can't be true. Here's why: Not a single other healthcare provider that I’ve visited in the last 13 months have dared to take as long to provide me a bill for uncovered services. A month or two, maybe. But yeah, like totally, for sure, a simple blood lab is absolutely top tier as far as healthcare billing complexity. Anyway, is it acceptable for a service provider to send a bill over a year after services were rendered, and expect a customer to promptly pay? I certainly don’t think so. UnityPoint’s demonstrated administrative deficiency is probably indicative of their inadequacy as a legitimate healthcare provider. Spare your automated response to this review, a manager has already expressed her unwillingness to reason. Good day.
Please don't use this agency. They are inexcusably disorganized. I was out of the hospital 10 days before they even called for an OT appointment. Haven't bothered to call for a PT appointment yet. Three nurses have been here and they don't keep good records, I have to go over the same stuff over and over and they are clueless. Also, the first visit the nurse was 45 minutes late and offered no apology or explanation. I'm very aware of my care needs and I worry that an elderly person who is counting on these folks to take care of them proactively without the patient having to monitor their services, it won't happen. There disorganization and extremely poor records could easily cause harm. I am a working adult that needs services and I can honestly tell you I would be fired from my job if I ran my business like this and treated my customers as they have treated me. I am switching agencies.
I would give more than 5 's if this was possible. The staff and volunteers never cease to surprise me. They are always kind and respectful and helpful. I was able to choose what hospital I wanted to have in brief my Upper & Lower GI done at. The volunteers are incredible and the one's I have seen are more than my age which is almost 64 years old and they can push wheelchairs for long distances. I am a volunteer advocate and empath and I am always impressed by all of them here. I wasn't doing very well after my liquid diet and drinking my Prep and more plus Fasting but the moment I entered using my walker the first lady that I saw began helping me immediately and it continued with each person. The people that do the check in information in their offices are always fun to talk to and this makes a huge difference to me. It's obvious that they enjoy what they do and my favorite regardless of one's profession is when they allow their genuine personality and sense of humor to shine through. I literally felt better than I usually do thanks to all of them. My overall symptoms were much less.
Went in with my fiance last year, winter time. He was having a hard time breathing and couldn't barely move. We go in and waited a total of 6 hours. In the waiting area. 6 hours. All that time they did blood tests they didn't have to do, heart monitoring that they didn't have to do if they just took a covid test as soon as we came in. He had covid. I don't know why it's not recommended to do a test when someone can't breathe when that's a symptom of covid as soon as that person comes in. Would of saved my man 300$ that he made in one day. Not only did they take his hard earned cash but wasted our time when they didn't have to. Yes, the staff was nice but they need to understand more about symptoms. I'm only giving two stars because they did save my moms life when an ulcer exploded in her abdomen. But they really upset my fiance because he was proud of what he did only for it to be taken away from him. When we came home, he told me "Should of just suffered through it instead." I'm disappointed
This is a review pertaining to my daughter that stayed in the Geriatric Mental Health Unit for 8 months, has a severe brain injury. My complaints have to do with the caseworkers for my daughter. The first was Susan Elsbernd, she stated to me that “ My daughter never should have come out of the coma, when first admitted into ER..I have never should have heard those words out of this uncaring woman! I am also my daughter’s Legal Guardian so I must totally advocate for my daughter. Next I had to deal with Lynley Wolfe,,not much communication whatsoever..I had to contact Patients Advocates at the hospital to voice my opinions.. Fast forward 6 months…so the caseworkers were trying to place my daughter in a facility. Found Cedar Falls Medical Care Center….The staff and nurses there don’t even know the extensive care my daughter needs…Caseworkers just DON’T do their jobs!!! Neither does The Amerigroup Representative Kyla Gardner. Nobody informed the Cedar Falls facility of details of my daughter. They had NO CLUE that my daughter was INCONTINENT!! My daughter fell the 2nd night there…as she was trying to remove a drenched Depends…I’ve been asked to fill in what happened to my daughter a couple times already.. Bottom Line, these caseworkers and Amerigroup Rep….didn’t inform The Cedar Falls Health Care Center the absolute important factors about my daughter serious health issues……. BEWARE…OF….YOUR …..LOVED…..ONE…..IN ….MENTAL….HEALTH…..UNIT…HERE….AT…UNITY POINT….LUTHERAN….HOSPITAL…IN ….DES….MOINES..IA!
If you are looking for a career in healthcare, I recommend 3N at Lutheran. I have been very pleased and proud to say I work here. The nurses go out of their way to provide adequate care for their patients. The care techs are also hard working as well. I also have never seen better management like the supervisors on this floor. They really care about their staff and patients. I am impressed.
The first time I went to Lutheran I was highly suicidal. They admitted me to child psych, and the staff there were absolutely amazing. All of the staff there were always focused on your recovery and they wanted to do everything to help you. I ended up having 6 other stays in child psych, and experienced the same love and dedication of the staff. Fast forward a few months and I ended up OD on a certain medication. The Er staff were very helpful and compassionate. One problem I had was the people watch me would always fall asleep no matter day or night. I ended up staying in the er for 3 days before they had a bed open on adult psych. Adult psych was fine, the staff were definitely not as helpful as the ones in child psych. There was one staff that moved up to the adult unit from child psych which helped a lot. I was struggling so much with my ED and they really didn’t seem to care all the would say was_”you just gotta eat”, which is very unhelpful for a person with an eating disorder and. I ended up getting really sick from my eating disorder one day and spent all day in bed. They also sent me home after I was still struggling with my eating disorder. I had to go back a few weeks later due to overdosing on some meds, they sent me to council bluffs. This wouldn’t be such a big deal but, they never seem to have adult beds at Lutheran. My friends have said the same thing. Overall, I think it is a good place to get psychiatric help.
