The Mosque was established in 1992. It Has an Imam who leads the five daily prayers. The Mosque is also holding weekly Islamic lessons with silmantaneous English translation. Oakland Islamic Center is a non-profit organization that has been exempted from both state and federal taxes since January, 1998. The Mosque is now a sole property of the Moslem community and growing every year.
The Oakland Islamic Center started the daily Iftar program in 1995. Since then it has been a huge success and some mosques are now adapting the idea. More than 150 people make Iftar in the mosque every night in Ramadan, and the number keeps increasing.
