Story

The IU Health West Hospital Difference
Patients see and feel the difference the moment they walk in the door. The use of natural materials and colors, peaceful garden views, cheerful natural light and soft, healing music set a soothing tone, establishing IU Health West Hospital as a place where patients can set aside stressful distractions and focus on what's important: getting well.

IU Health West Hospital's team of caregivers further patients' sense of a healing sanctuary by working to build a sense of trust and rapport with patients, thereby making patients active partners in their healthcare experience, and allowing them to feel a sense of control, understanding and peace of mind.

Think of every hospital experience you have had, and then push your expectations aside. IU Health West Hospital strives to exceed your expectations in every way, and provide patient care second to none.

IU Health West Hospital was designed with "on-stage" and "off-stage" corridors and elevators to keep public and visitor movement through the hospital separate from the movement of patients, materials, staff and supplies. Hence, the "day-to-day" operations that go into running a hospital are kept out of the publicly-traveled areas, allowing for a more peaceful, serene and home-like environment.

As just one example, Emergency Servies at IU Health West features private treatment spaces and separate waiting areas for adult and pediatric emergencies. IU Health West Hospital considers patients' privacy and dignity of the utmost importance. Therefore, in Emergency Services at IU Health West you will find no curtains separating patients - exam rooms are spacious, and have actual doors shielding patients from the bustling corridors outside their treatment room.

Small waiting "nooks" throughout the hospital are designed to help families find cozy, private space away from the bedside for conversation and quiet time. It doesn't stop there - IU Health West Hospital's grounds feature many gardens and quiet courtyards, ponds and walking trails, perfect for conversation, relaxation and rejuvenation.

Indiana University Health West Hospital does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability or age in admission, treatment, or participation in its programs, services and activities, or in employment. The wait was a lot longer than I would expect from this type of hospital. Everyone was very nice and professional. The facility was very clean and organized. The waiting room was filled to capacity and when they took a patient out they would bring the patient back into the waiting room. Seems like they should move the process along so u don't spend three hours waiting in one room.

ER Visit: When I went in for severe stomach pains (Turns out it was appendicitis) during my pregnancy, the ER had me waiting for 4 hours. People who had much less severe symptoms, were seen before me and just as we were about to leave for another hospital I was called back. Once back, I was treated with respect and they were very caring and considerate. They went over my options and together chose the safest route for our child. Labor and Delivery: When I was later admitted for Labor and Delivery it was under emergency circumstances and I was of course terrified. My nurse was my best friend that day, she was my advocate and helped reassure me that everything was fine. My doctor was very vigilant, and meticulous in the care of my son. So why four stars? There were two incidents that left a very bad taste in my mouth. The first was a nurse who came on duty at the peak of my contractions. I had not had any pain medication and had requested some. There are other patients here so I understand the amount of time it takes to get them. However, when I asked to be kept informed and asked again for pain medicine, she became very snooty with me and I had to get assertive to have her keep me informed of what was going on during my labor. I believe she was new, as she had to have another nurse show her how to check me to see if I was ready. I don't mind that she was new, but getting an attitude with someone who is pain and is still being civil isn't good patient care. Fast forward to after delivery, I was resting. My family was in the room, but staying very quiet. The lights were off, the tv was off, and everyone was speaking in a whisper. (I didn't want to send my child to the nursery, personal preference, so they stayed in the room and watched him for me while I slept. While I was sleeping, a nurse came to the room and quite loudly proclaimed she was there to set up the car seat. I still had two days before dismissal. My father politely told her that now is not the time to go over the car seat because I was resting. When the nurse continued to argue with him and attempted to wake me, my father told her to get out and asked the head nurse for a sign to place on my door and explained what the nurse had done. Another amazing nurse came on night shift duty a day after my delivery. She was incredibly sweet, she helped me walk around, conversed with my son and I while my husband slept and even helped me swaddle my very active son. There were so many incredible nurses and doctors that helped my son come in to this world. Yea, there were a couple bad eggs and they'll probably still be bad eggs. Overall, I was relieved that my doctor was so vigilant, meticulous, and decisive. I was relieved that for the majority of my stay, I had wonderful caring nurses. Ones who went above an beyond to help me. The ER, well that's always been a mess, so I would highly suggest going to a different ER. But the rest, in my opinion, is very good.

Okay so the girl at the front desk at the ER Triage check in was sweet, the RN however with the light brown hair and pony tail with glasses was so RUDE! Nurses should be compassionate and patient advocates but she sure wasnt. She told me my niece looked perfectly fine and asked me to step aside. I'm sorry are you a Doctor? And then instead of kindly explaining proper protocol to me she was just so rude and told me they cant help me. Wow.

This place is the worst Hospital I have been in. I have been here in Labor and Delivery and most the staff are snooty disrespectful to anyone not of upper class Hendricks county . They even went as far as calling child protective services on us which everything was fine and they approved us to go home. They let my girlfriend go without food nearly 12 hours, had to nearly ask for everything several Times. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER
