Just my opinion and my experience. Do not hire this company!!! I had worked with them years ago on a small project with no issues. I decided to use them again to remodel a small bathroom and back hall due to water damage. The project started on April 3rd. I was told by the owner that the job would take 3 weeks possibly four because of all the inspections. I am sitting at week 22. It took them 16 weeks for plumbing and electricity. The roof which was the cause of the water damage has not been touch. The water damage in the back hall has gotten worse since they “started” the project. I have no walls or ceiling in the bathroom and only a plank floor. I have had trash and discarded building materials sitting in my backyard since May. It is almost impossible to get hold of the owner, Jim Murray. He never returns calls and his voice-mail is always full so you can never leave a message. I have two half baths and one full bath (approx. 5X10). I have not been able to bath in my home for 22 weeks. Jim told me that it would take two weeks the last time I was able to get hold of him. He promised that I would not have to suffer through another long weekend (Memorial Day, July 4th) without a shower. I have been relying on work and the Y. He lied. One of the lowest points was August 24(the last time he returned my calls). That is the day of the building inspection. I was the one taking the inspector through the site and answering his construction questions. No one from J Murray and Sons Construction bothered to show up. I have a complaint with the Consumer Board and I’m waiting for the hearing date. Save yourself a world of pain and pick another contractor. If this company cannot complete a small 5X10 bathroom they cannot handle large projects. They also underestimate the cost of the project and continually ask for additional payments.

My husband and I have been thinking about remodeling or adding an addition in the form of another floor to our house for years now. It seemed doing that would mean a new roof on top of the new floor. We called Jim to come and take a look to let us know if it was possible and what the costs would be and Jim presented us with a number of options. In the end we went with his basement dig out service. What used to be a tiny crawlspace big enough for our hot water heater and pipes is now a full height finished basement! We gained all the space we needed at less cost than an addition and it didn't cause us to have to put on a whole new roof. While they were doing this we had some plumbing fixed and moved around and had them convert us from oil to gas heat when they replaced the hot water heater too. The basement turned out gorgeous and serves as a game room for our teenagers.

I heard about J Murray and sons through friends and my wife saw them on some Facebook groups.  I inherited a house from a relative who passed away and wasn't sure what to do with it. It was a really old house that needed a lot of work and I debated just knocking it down and building something new. I just couldn't imagine we could update it and have it turn out well. Jim proved me wrong. He and his team helped me plan what could be done in each room and the results were just beautiful. All the original wood was salvaged and refinished, which not only saved me money but also kept some of the character of the original house while we modernized everything else. Horsehair plaster was replaced with drywall, all the plumbing the electrical was removed and modernized, it was pretty much a new house in the old shell, The project manager Patrick was always honest with me whenever we hit a small bump in the road and all the options to solve those problems were presented to me before we moved forward. Communication was great, no issues there at all.

My original plan was to sell the house but it turned out so well that I kept it and let a family member rent it so I could keep it in the family. I'm actually planning to have some work done on my house and J Murray & Sons is the only company I'm going to call. I highly recommend them, the house turned out so well and easily the best experience I've ever had with a contractor.

J Murray & Sons construction did a kitchen renovation for us and we couldn't be happier. Our kitchen was pretty outdated so we needed a ton of work. They removed our tile and refinished the original hardwood floors which look amazing. I could not believe how much of a difference the tile back splash made to the look and feel of the room and the marble counter tops they helped us choose match perfectly. We have so much more open space now and the room is much brighter. In addition to a new faucet and sink we finally have a garbage disposal and dishwasher. Any time we had questions about the schedule or the work they were answered honestly and quickly. It was a pleasure doing business with Jim, Patrick and the rest of his team and I'll be calling J Murray & Sons again when it's time to renovate our bathrooms.

I have used this company on multiple occasions and while they seem to mean well, the issues inside the company and their excuses just never seem to end. The last project was scheduled and had no-show after no-show. I have to imagine there are better options out there and I will not be working with them again.
