What an amazing little place! We stopped in while passing through town Sunday morning. Chose to stop based on reviews, several other choices in the immediate area, and boy am I glad we did. First of all the place was very busy, staff was in constant motion. After a much shorter wait than appeared likely, we were seated at a clean table before the previous customers were out the door. Our waitress, all smiles and seeming happy to see us, asked what we would like to drink, and fantastic hot coffee in heavy mugs and a carafe for refills arrived nearly instantly. Orders were placed soon after, and we settled in to wait, after all it is a small busy place on a Sunday morning. The only problem waiting was watching all the wonderful plates pouring forth from the kitchen, and questioning our own choices in light of what trotted past. We need not have been concerned, as quite soon our meals arrived. We both had ordered omelets, but different toast and filling. The omelets were large and perfectly prepared. The ham in mine was cut and tasted like it had just been carved off the bone. The hash browns were crisp and plentiful. But the toast. ..oh my. Mine was sourdough, and to say it was phenomenal doesn't do it justice. Freshly baked, over an inch thick, smothered with fresh butter and toasted to perfection. I have no doubt that we will be back to try some of the other wonderful looking food we saw, but I am equally sure what ever I get will have a side of toast. As we left after paying, I looked back and saw our table already occupied and a coffee carafe arriving. Perhaps 3 minutes had elapsed. ..the owners should be quite proud. Could not recommended more.

This restaurant is super close to the University of Northern Iowa.  The food is delicious which explains why it was still jam packed at 9:15am on a Thursday.  The service was super friendly and we had our coffee within 2 minutes and our food was served within about 10 minutes (8 minutes after ordering).  It was absolutely amazing.  I couldn't believe how good it was especially for being so busy.  Plus I ordered an omelette with 1 full egg and the rest whites.  Despite my special order it was still fast and the waitress didn't bat an eye at my special request.  I always feel like I'm a pain when I make those requests, but no issue here.  Can't wait to go back.

As a college student in cedar falls, J's is one of my favorite places in town. The food is always great, and the service is usually superb. Deb was my server today, and I would NOT recommend her. After waiting more than 20 minutes, we finally got our appetizers, but our food came out immediately afterwards. On top of that, our food was messed up and when I sent it back, she got a serious attitude. I will be speaking to the manager before I leave.

- Update: the manager Chelsea was very kind and wonderful. I will be returning.

Good grief.  They bake their own bread!  Well-organized, large portions, massive menu, cheerful wait staff, enthusiastic owner/operator.  The UNI School of Business would do well to analyze what's happening here.  I plan to go back soon!

Great place for a delicious breakfast! Love the waffles. They also have an amazing chicken bacon ranch sandwich. Kids get cookies after their meal and they are the best cookies in town.
