Absolutely stellar! Was referred to Jack's by another business that could not help with my issue. Took pictures of my equipment (too big for me to take the generator) From the pictures, they were able to get me the correct part so I could start up my generator. Reasonable prices and very patient with me.

Anyone in the business of small engine repair has to be insane; it's a thankless business. This guy's rates are reasonable given he's trying to repair all sorts of lawn mowers, chain saws, etc. I took a Huskvarna chain saw to him twice. He fixed it both times but it wouldn't work afterwards due to clogged carburetor. I finally junked the chain saw. Now he's fixing my lawn mower. We'll see how much it costs me.

I really do not like negative reviews and really thought on this one for a month before writing one. I purchased a Husqvarna lawn tractor last year from Lowe’s. They told me that Jack’s Small Engine repair in Alachua is Husqvarna certified/dealer and I could take it to them if anything goes wrong with it or if I need it serviced. I took it in to Jack’s Small Engine Repair last month for a service. It had 22 hours on it. I had used it for maybe 6 months and we’re not rough on it at all. I expected an oil change and that was it. I get the call that it’s ready. I go to pick it up and the man at the desk tells me my bill is $236+. I said “excuse me?” He told me again. (I am not knowledgeable about lawn mowers and took it there because I figured they would take care of me, but I knew something was off). I asked what they had done. He ran down the list…replaced the blades, replaced the air filter, replaced a belt, replaced spark plugs, etc. HUH?!? I may not know anything about mowers but I do know none of those things were ready to be replaced. He asked if I wanted for him to get the mechanic and yell at him. I told him I don’t yell at people. I just won’t come back or refer them. The owner (mechanics wife) comes out and asks what’s wrong. I asked why the spark plugs and everything else were replaced. She asks her husband if he does that with every service and he said he does. I told her I needed an oil change and they could have called me if anything else needed replacing or fixed. I also told her an oil change on my older mower along with sharpening of the blades was always about $60. She asked where I had it done and told me I should take my new mower there then. Another HUH?!? She proceeds to tell me that I should have called and asked for an estimate and they would have just charged me for the estimate if I didn’t want them to do the work on it. What? I looked at my old spark plug and it looked new. I looked at my old air filter and it was barely dirty. I get home and call my brother. He told me I had been taken by these people and suggested I open my manual and look at the maintenance schedule. None of those things should have been replace until around 100 hours. That means that I still had 75%+ life in everything they replaced and charged me for. Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend Jack’s Small Engine Repair to anyone.
