Story

JDS Professional Group was founded in 1983 as one of the first "boutique" firms in the Western United States.
Our office is located in Greenwood Village, Colorado. We are structured with five core professional levels - partners, principals, managers, seniors and professional staff. The structure of our organization has been developed with our primary service sectors in mind. Our local control structure with integrated professional experience from new and developing disciplines, allows us to be flexible and responsive to client needs while maintaining appropriate resource capabilities.

I would give a 0 star rating if I could. We received absolutely terrible service from two CPA's here over the course of a year. We missed out on a huge tax deduction because they failed to bring it up to us. A very, very obvious one at that. Even though our sole purposes was addressing our tax bill, they never gave us the time of day and kept kicking the can down the road until filing season. But by that time, it was too late as we needed to do things by 12/31 the prior year. By my estimates, it would have lowered our tax bill by $5-$10k plus. On top of costing us thousands of dollars in missed savings, by the time we were about ready to proceed with doing our taxes, they gave us an absurd estimate which was 4x higher than another one we had received. Then they said we missed the deadline to get them all of our info by, even though we had been in contact with them for almost a year prior and did actually get our info to them well in advance of their deadline. There are a lot of solid accounting firms in Denver. This is not one of them. Take your business to a company who cares.

My employment with this firm was, in my opinion, the most awful experience I have ever had to endure. I only accepted the position because I needed a job at that point. I ultimately got "laid off" (a.k.a. fired) after one year and one month employment due to my age and an inappropriate comment made by Keri Villalobos. I reported the June 29, 2015 inappropriate comment to Brian Chase (head of the tax department). Keri made the inappropriate and unlawful comment during an administrative staff meeting. "Jason (one of the administrative assistants, and also John Smith's son) will be out of town this weekend with his girlfriend; therefore, when he returns, he will be in a better mood because he will be getting laid and getting a piece of ass." I have five witnesses to that remark made on 6/29/15 at approximately 9:30 a.m. and it has been reported to the EEOC. There were always inuendos from Keri regarding my age. I was 61 at the time and comments were, and I'm paraphrasing, "Oh you're so old school, you're so old fashioned, that's such a primitive way to do things". You can imagine how uncomfortable it was, being my age, having 43 years of CPA experience, answering to a 43 year-old. I was the oldest administrative assistant there. Except for the Practice Principals, there is no quality control, no attention to detail. The Practice Principals paid attention to detail - in fact they were happy that finally someone was in that position who actually knew what they were doing, and thanked me often. Never any thanks from the tax department. In fact, during my first review, both Brian and Keri inferred that I paid TOO much attention to detail and that they don't have time for that. In my opinion, they just wanted to get the product out the door and get the money in. In my opinion, John Smith (the head honcho) doesn't have a clue as to who his employees are and, it is my opinion that, he, Brian Chase, Keri Villalobos, Lynn Jerzyk, and their ilk, make it very clear that they're just a little cut above you. John Smith would just as soon run you over you in the hall than say "hi" or "hello", and Brian Chase wasn't far behind that mentality. Frankly, in my opinion, I've never experienced a more "class-less" group of people. It is my opinion that there is nothing professional about this firm, except the Practice Principals - Ray Saitta, Alan Brandt, Tom Miles, Chuck Fox, all of whom Keri would like to have retire because, as she puts it, "they're too old and getting senile". I worked directly for the Practice Principals, and when I was "laid off", the Practice Principals were not made aware of my absence until after the fact. Brian and Keri and Lynn waited until a Friday afternoon so that they didn't have to deal with the Practice Principals regarding why whereabouts until Monday. In general, the individuals in this firm, except for the Practice Principals, are very odd people. I didn't even want to give them one star, but I had to, to get this posted.
