Back in the 1950s, my Grandfather would go to Jimmy Buff's in Newark while he was at Med School. 60 years later, he took a shot at making these hot dogs for his family, including myself. We obviously had trouble getting the pizza bread, so we had to improvise with Onion Rolls which weren't bad either. But anyways, he talked for what seemed like forever about how great these hot dogs were and why he really missed going.

Since I recently moved to NYC, I decided I'd make to the trek out to West Orange to finally see for myself how these hot dogs tasted. And good lord I am glad I did. This place is right up my alley. It's a tiny little spot, with friendly folks behind the counter, serving up unreal-tasting, unique hot dogs that I'll never forget. Thanks for the awesome experience! 

Also, any advice on where to get your bread from or how to make something close to it?

The food fills an inner need for comfort food. It's amazing to think that such a simple preparation can yield such an amazing taste and sense of satisfaction when eating it. I've been eating a double sausage every time I go there for over 50 years. It just keeps getting better.

1/8/18 update.  Since I can't start another review, I have to amend the one above.  This will show you how crazy I am for Jimmy Buff's.  I went there last night, just a day after going after not being there for more than 15 years.  Auggie was about to close and let me in to satisfy my urge for a double sausage.  As I said the day before..."It just keeps getting better."  There may have been a "Right Hand Man", but Auggie is the "Right Man" in the West Orange store.

I love Jimmy Buff. This was a childhood favorite. My mom and I would stop there on Saturday afternoons after shopping at Korvettes and Sterns. I live in Atlanta now, coming  home to NJ this weekend. I am definitely going to get a hotdog. Love

I have not had jimmy buffs since the 80's. Now i live in fl. You who live there are the lucky the best hot dogs in the world!!!!

Food was hot and made to order. Never had a hot dog like this before. Enormous. Enough to share and don't ask for fries. Everything comes with fries and the bread is so good.
