Is oldest restaurant in town, family owned and operated since 1943 Continues to use Aggies good Mexican and American recipes and a warm friendly atmosphere
Stop by Joe & Aggie's Cafe for a wonderful dining experience. As a 3rd-generation business, we have been serving our local area since 1943, and were named the “hottest chow” on Route 66. You can always count on our family-owned-and-operated business for fresh foods and excellent customer satisfaction. For great-tasting Mexican and American cuisine, visit us. We’re located near the Bank of the West and West Living Park, behind Stan's Barber Shop—this is an old-style barbershop offering men’s military cuts and flattop-style cuts for only $9.
Joes and Aggie’s granddaughter, Kimberley Gallegos, runs the café today, along with her siblings. It’s the oldest restaurant in town still in business, perhaps because they continue to use Aggie’s good Mexican and American recipes and maintain a warm friendly atmosphere. Joe and Aggie’s daughter Alice quoted “When we first moved in here, traffic out front was terrible,” Alice remembers. “When those truckers would put on their brakes to make the turn at the corner, they made so much smoke that we would have to come in early to scrub the soot off our tables every morning.”
Alice says she makes red and green chili sauce “pretty hot”. She remembers one Easterner who came in and boasted that he had never found any chili sauce too hot for his taste. Alice brought out some of her best and he took a mouthful. When he could finally speak again, he admitted he had tradition and appreciate the taste that may be more slowly acquired by others.
