My family and I are so very grateful to Tom Tierney and his wonderful team for the incredible job they did this past Saturday for my mom's funeral. They were very comforting, kind and infinitely patient with us through out the whole process. They were very calm which helped the whole family relax. Their attention to detail made for a beautiful, dignified church and graveside ceremony. They interfaced with the church, florist and restaurant to make the whole event flow seamlessly. I cannot thank them enough and would highly recommend them without reservation. Even though we have the same last name, we are not related so there is no bias in this unsolicited review!
John F Tierney Funeral Home was a place that my brother in law pick for his late wife, my sister. At first o was like WHY he pick this place because we have always gone to a Funeral place in South Windsor. I was actually very satisfied the staff, service, kindness and understanding. They went above and beyond. Our situation was a very unique and sad situation. My sister ended up being abandoned by her husband. They walked us through what to do to get my sister laid to rest Thank you Heather and Tom. You guys rock!!
On January 25, 2022, I woke up next to my beloved to find he had passed. I had no idea what to do and so I called my pastor for suggestions. I ultimately chose Tierney's and am very glad that I did. Their entire staff was so courteous, professional and sensitive. My family and I were treated as if my beloved was a member of their own family. They promptly answered all my calls, all my questions and walked me through the process as gently as possible. I can't say enough about Tierneys. They were spectacular during a very difficult time. Tierney Funeral Home handled my brother's funeral service in August of 2020. He died unexpectedly at 45. They did an absolutely wonderful job! John Jr. handled all the arrangements and was respectful and tentative to my family's needs. This is not a situation people want to find themselves in and it was handled with grace and compassion. I am very grateful to the entire staff for making a difficult time less stressful. THANK YOU!
From the moment we met with the Tierney Family, we were calmed, assured and so carefully taken care of through the unknown world of planning for your loved one's passing. I will never forget the respect and care I received when our loved one, our Dad passed, I called Tom, at 2:30am, he met me in minutes dressed in a suit treated our Dad with dignity. The direction given for the memorial was appreciated and the day was nothing less than perfect and a beautiful memory for our family and friends. Tom Tierney along with the whole staff where the most helpful and professional funeral directors in the business. There attention to detail in the last 3 funerals I unfortunately had to go to, my father's funeral being one of them, go the extra mile in taking care of all the last minute details making the experience as painless as possible. When my dad passed away suddenly, almost two weeks ago, I chose a funeral home based on what came to mind, which was Holmes in Manchester. I had no experience with familial death, so there was no planning involved or thought to what we would do, since it was so sudden. When the new owner of Holmes arrived, it had been sold the week before unbeknownst to me the new owner talked over the exorbitant cost while my dad’s body was lying 10 ft. from me. I was hysterical after just watching my dad struggle for his last breath. We sat down in the kitchen and he proceeded to ask me a couple of questions, one of which caused me enormous anxiety by telling me I had to make a quick decision about whether I wanted my dad embalmed. Keep in mind, it was 5am and I had been up all night with my dad and was in a state of shock, sorrow and disbelief. That was no time or place to talk these things over, and should’ve been put on hold until I could get some sleep and pull myself together, but he was completely unfazed by his course behavior. The next day, which was a Sunday, I went to his office to discuss things. I told him I would like the funeral to be on Friday and he told me that sooner would be better, as my dad’s body was very “dehydrated.” Not what you want to hear when talking about your loved one. I told him I wanted to go home and discuss the arrangements with my family and would be back later to sign the contract, he then told me I was not able to go home and discuss my choices about the funeral and need to sign the contract “noooow”. I told him I was extremely ‘put off’ by his behavior at my home when he discussed cost, and like any true man of integrity, he blamed me for asking him about cost. In my state of grief and distress, I may have asked because he insisted he needed to know about the embalming and I had no idea about such things,, but I know he could’ve AND should’ve waited until later that day after I had gotten some rest. I was also told all money needed to be paid 24 hours before the funeral. As a single mother with no resources, to be told you have to pay $8000 in three days made me nearly frantic. I couldn’t even grieve properly, as I was thinking about getting hit with all these other situations. I felt like I was buying a used car, not planning a service. In desperation, my daughter called and spoke with Tom Tierney Jr., who offered to take over everything. Tom called the the other funeral home, made all the arrangements, ate the cost of transportation, worked within my budget, and risked his reputation for professional courtesy with the other business. He transported my dad at no cost and showed enormous amounts of TRUE compassion in this situation. There was not one single aspect of this funeral that Tom did not take care of for me. He did not demand payment ASAP, and acted with such integrity that I was amazed and humbled. In the end, my dad looked great and the service was held on Friday and most importantly, I was at peace knowing my loved one was in Tom's care. Tom assured me everything would be fine and it was. There was no reason for Holmes to cause me that kind of distress. I rarely see this kind of caring anywhere these days. I could go on and on about the incredible care and service that Tom Tierney Jr. gave to us during this incredibly difficult time. There is no other funeral home that will ever compare and I would never go anywhere else again! Remember, you cannot fake compassion; either you have it or you don’t.
My family has had many funerals and wakes here unfortunately many unexpected. More recently my mother last month and my Great Aunt this month. They helped us every step of the way to ensure everything went smoothly.
My husband passed away almost a year ago, they were so helpful and accommodating for my family. Many of the family members have mobility issues, and they worked with us to make sure their needs were met as well. Highly recommend.
